We are very pleased to announce the reopening of the Carden Arms this April 2021. We cut no corners in finding and cooking the freshest local produce, alongside mouthwatering meat from our very own herd of traditional pedigree Hereford cows. We have introduced a great new wine list and the cellar is stocked with some great beers from old favourites to new ones. Food is served during the following times:
Monday - Currently closed
Tuesday to Saturday - 12.00 to 21.00 (Drinks til 11pm)
Sunday - 12.00 to 20.00 (Drinks til 10.30pm)

Please note we are following the latest, ever-changing COVID government guidance. We ask that you only visit under current guidelines and please do not be offended as we try to navigate the new normal and bring the Carden Arms back to the community. We hope to see you very soon!!

Beautiful Norwegian halibut paired with a pumpkin and mussel curry. The pumpkins are muscat pumpkins, they have a really strong sweet flavour. The mussels are from Morecambe Bay. We steam them, remove the meat. and use the juices from this process as a fish stock to add back into curry. We add the mussel meat back in just before serving so as not to overcook them. Perfect for Halloween

Again this is a little piece of us. Amazing ham hocks from our orchard raised Sandy and Blacks and rabbits courtesy of James Kennedy and his gun. Early cherries I pickled when they starting ripening in the orchard mid summer. The beef dripping for the fried bread made from the tallow from our Hereford beef. A sharp mustard aioli to cut through the richness and complement the meaty flavours

This is all our own work. Amazing pork from our orchard raised Oxford Sandy and Black pigs. Plums from the very same orchard where the pigs were fattened on apples and b**r from the pub. Celeriac from the farm garden which has tarragon and dill running through it from the same garden.

The plums have ended now so it might not be hanging around on the menu for much longer but cooking with the best ingredients at the right time of year is what we are all about in the kitchen. Seasonality is fundamental in getting the best flavours.

Inspired from a recent trip to Sardinia where all I ate was fried squid on the beach, but with a Catalan twist. Uk squid is at its best in October and November and romesco sauce adds a smoky fresh accompaniment. It’s a pretty simple sauce but it’s important to use the best ingredients you can get, best tomato’s, peppers and almonds, and to get plenty of colour when your roasting for a lovely smokey finish

Proper pub dish this. Always struggle with chicken because well it’s chicken but it improves if you cook it on the bone. We brine the chickens for 24hrs with lemon and garlic then cook them in a waterbath for 5 hours to try and help maintain the moisture and flavour. Finished in a hot oven with a harissa and honey glaze with a few secret bits in it. We sell a lot of these!!

Beautiful brisket from our heard of Hereford beef, slowly smoked for 24hrs on our Kamado Joe. Broken down and mixed with blue Bourne's Cheshire Cheese. Paired with Pears cooked in red w**e from our farm orchard. All our own work from field to fork

Nine years running. We’ll raise a glass to that 🍺

We’re incredibly proud to share that Carden Arms has been included in the CAMRA Good B**r Guide 2027 — making this our ninth consecutive year in the guide.

What makes this recognition particularly special to us is that inclusion in the Good B**r Guide is independently selected. It isn’t a case of paying to appear — pubs earn their place through the quality of the b**r they serve.

To be recognised once is something to be proud of. To earn a place nine years in a row means an enormous amount to us and to everyone who works hard to keep a great pint at the heart of Carden Arms.

Of course, the best way to see what all the fuss is about is to come and enjoy one for yourself.
