Perched above Menaggio, Apartment Bella Vista Belvedere looks out across Lake Como to Bellagio from its patio terrace and balcony. Two bedrooms and two bathrooms sleep four, and there’s a private garden terrace plus a communal pool with lake views of its own. Menaggio’s ferry port is a five-minute drive away, with crossings to Bellagio and Varenna taking 15 to 20 minutes. At over 400 metres deep, Lake Como is one of the deepest lakes in Europe.

This new waterfront home sleeps eight in four bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, and a private hot tub sits on the terrace. The beach, cafés and pubs are all within walking distance, and dolphins are regularly spotted offshore. At low tide, a granite causeway leads across to the Mount, while Marazion itself was granted its charter in 1257.

Autumn is seal pupping season at Cwmtydu, a small Ceredigion cove that was once a smugglers’ hideaway. A couple of minutes from the beach, Ty Cwch is an architect-designed boathouse with three heated sleeping cabins for up to 12, a shared kitchen and doors that open onto the valley. Kayaks are ready to launch from the cove, the Wales Coast Path runs right past, and there’s a firepit for when the light fades.
