Hazel Mount Fellside HMF is the perfect getaway for those wanting to enjoy a wildcamp experience with a few extra comforts We look forward to your visit.

Hazel Mount Fellside is a lovely, quiet, private site to just simply sit back, soak in the glorious 360ยฐ views, and reconnect with your loved ones without the distractions of modern life. The site is lightly grazed and as a result attracts a plethora of wildflowers and wildlife. So we ask that you don't burn any wood found on site (for wildlife reasons), that you don't climb the trees (most of which are ancient and could have rotten branches), that you are careful around the crumbling stonewalls (some of which we intend to restore), and that anything you bring on site, you take with you when you leave. If you do feel like exploring, there are a couple of bridleways and footpaths that are easily accessible from Hazel Mount Fellside, including a beautiful route that takes you past Swinside Stone Circle. The circle was constructed at some period, between 3,300 to 900 BC. Megalithic specialist Aubrey Burl called Swinside "the loveliest of all the circles" in north-western Europe. When you feel like venturing further afield, the gorgeous sandy beaches at Haverigg and Silecroft are a 10 minute drive away, Coniston 20 minutes, and Ambleside and Windermere are both about 40. Amenities in the nearby town of Millom include a couple of small supermarkets, takeaway restaurants, butchers, a laundrette, and several small independent shops. Local pubs and eateries in the area include, The Clock Tower, The Punch Bowl, The Black C**k Inn, Old Kings Head and others for you to discover. The site comprises of:

1) The main camping area with an adjacent firepit and outdoor kitchen unit, overlooks the gorgeous Duddon estuary. This area is booked as one whole unit exclusively for your group (maximum 8 people with 3 cars unless agreed otherwise at time of booking).

2) A few camping pitches dotted around the site, so that each guest can enjoy their own little bubble of paradise.

3) A traditional hay meadow that is closed during the growing season, but then becomes an additional camping area once the crop has been harvested.

Today I found a feather from a red-legged partridge. A few weeks ago I posted about sightings around Fellside and said I'd disturbed a group of medium sized birds and was hoping they were the rare, native grey partridge. This feather suggests they were in fact the stunning looking red-legged partridge instead, that was introduced from mainland Europe.

For more information check out the link below, from where I obtained the image of the bird.

Gorgeous day in paradise โค๏ธ. It's amazing to remember how wild and untamed the little moos were when they first arrived last year but as you can see, everyone is being respectful, and has settled, and it's just wonderful ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ’•

Made up some of the porridge my campers didn't eat, and gave the little moos a taste, especially Fridge ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿ’•. Need to cram in lots of treats and love while he's still with me ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿฎ. And of course I couldn't make it all about him, when the rest of them are so darn cute! ๐Ÿ˜

Going to miss my little moos ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ As autumn progresses, Roger will soon collect them where the girls will spend winter in a nice warm barn with plenty of feed. Fridge however will fulfill his destiny ๐Ÿ’” ๐Ÿฅฉ going to get as many cuddles and treats in as I can while he's still with me ๐Ÿ’–

Introducing Fifteen and Nemo ๐Ÿ‘.

Everyday I do a head count, and all too often I'm a ewe short. All the other girls pretty much stay together. But this girl I've discovered is quite happy in her own company. Very much an independent lady ๐Ÿ˜‰. So when I find her, it's usually with the remark "there you are fifteen!". Well it would appear she's passed her adventurous trait onto her daughter ๐Ÿ™ˆ

When Roger arrived a few weeks ago with the trailer to take the lambs, one was missing. He looked high and low for her...later that day I had a look around paradise too ๐Ÿ‘€. No joy. It was the following day she appeared. Goodness knows where she'd been hiding ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‚. Hence her name Nemo, as in the children's animated film ๐Ÿ˜‚

The last few days, I've been letting my hens into the hay meadow and this brazen duo have taken advantage of the gate being left open and come into the yard for the best grass ๐ŸŒพ. Well today Fifteen went and gathered up her girl pals after seeing the gate open... and soon enough the little moos heard there was better grazing to be had, and chased all but Fifteen and Nemo out ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ™ˆ. I told you they're not normal ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’•

What's the worst that could happen hey ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ™ˆ. Better than a lawn mower I suppose ๐Ÿ˜‰

Our impatience reflects a deeper disconnection from the natural world and from our own bodies. Weโ€™ve learned to value speed, productivity, and control, forgetting that life operates through relationships, rhythms, and processes that cannot simply be rushed - this is not only driven by our mindset and worldview but by the system itself. Each feed into the other.

Now, our culture that struggles to sit with its own discomfort also struggles to let a forest regenerate or a soil ecosystem rebuild itself. We need to recognize that we are not separate from nature, managing it from the outside. We are nature, and learning to live well means relearning how to listen, attune, and participate in the systems that make our existence possible.

The recent bracken cutting has encouraged the little moos back into the woodland to help with my bracken mgmt ๐Ÿ˜‰. And the chickens love scratching through the brash ๐Ÿ”.
