Heversham lies at the head of Morecambe Bay – the picture on the hotel sign is a bird’s eye view looking out towards Arnside railway viaduct and the bay. The building which is now Heversham Hotel has 16th century origins. It was for a time the vicarage and the lawns extended up to the church. It ceased to be the vicarage in 1842 and became a private house called Elm Lawn. In the early twentieth ce

ntury the house was converted to Heversham Hotel. In 1927 the bypass was opened by the Prince of Wales, hence the name Princes Way, cutting through the hotel gardens. In 1966 the hotel was renamed the Blue Bell (the bell in the bar is the porter’s bell from Heversham railway station and the name Blue Bell is a homage to another pub of the same name in the village which closed in 1952). After major refurbishment in 2016, the original hotel name of HEVERSHAM HOTEL was reinstated.
