On 13th June 1988, Happisburgh Lighthouse was due to be decommissioned, but thanks to campaigning from Kay Swann’s lobbying, the lighthouse was given a stay of ex*****on. Trinity House continued to operate the light while a local meeting was convened to gauge local opinion and consult local users on the benefits of the lighthouse.
