Did you know Donnington Grove has a surprisingly fashionable connection to Regency history?
In 1783, the estate was bought by William Brummell, former private secretary to Prime Minister Lord North.
His son was George Bryan “Beau” Brummell, who would become one of the best-known figures of Regency society and was renowned as a leader of fashion.
So long before Donnington Grove became a hotel, the estate was home to the family of one of Britain’s most famous fashionable figures.
It is a connection that still has a place at Donnington Grove today: our restaurant, Beau’s, takes its name from Beau Brummell and this chapter in the estate’s history.
A small reminder that some of the names you come across here have rather longer stories behind them than you might first imagine.
