Wenchford is the perfect low-cost day out in hot weather.
A hidden gem within just a few miles of Beechenhurst Lodge, the Sculpture Trail, and Go Ape sites, this beautiful meandering stream and grassy surrounding woodlands create an ideal natural splash pad and picnicking paradise.
💦 The stream is shallow enough to be safe for the youngest of children, great for dam building, stone collecting or just paddling; sandals, aqua shoes or wellies are recommended as the stones can be quite uncomfortable. Follow the stream along to find a quieter spot, and you’ll find various rope swings scattered throughout. It means that even on the busier days you can usually find a peaceful place to sit or paddle.
🌳Another big bonus is the amount of shade to sit in, even if the sun is beating down you can always find cover.

🚗 The carpark is small and can get full quickly so get there early
💳 Parking is card-only and £5.50 for a full day
🌲 Might just be us but we struggled to get phone signal anywhere so prepare to be “off grid” for the day
🚽 There are toilets on site that are clean and well stocked

From Lydney: number 23 bus
From Cinderford: number 30 bus
Wenchford is around 30 mins walk from the bus stops so be prepared for a bit of an expedition.
