There are some Great British traditions that you just can’t beat… and a proper Sunday Roast has to be one of them! ❤️

BUT DID YOU KNOW? 🤔
The Sunday Roast has been part of British food tradition for hundreds of years, with roast beef becoming one of the foods Britain became famous for around the world. 🍖

And those Yorkshire puddings we all love? 🙌 They have a bit of history of their own!
Early versions were known as dripping puddings, traditionally cooked beneath roasting meat to catch all those delicious drippings. Nothing went to waste! 😍

But over the generations, the Sunday Roast became about much more than what was on the plate…
It became about bringing everyone together. ❤️

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 It’s getting the family together after a long week.
👵👴 It’s Grandmas and Grandads, parents and kids all around the same table.
💬 It’s catching up, sharing stories and having a good laugh.
🥰 It’s slowing down for a couple of hours and enjoying some proper family time.

Is it raining? Yes. 😂
Does that stop us celebrating a Bank Holiday in Cornwall? Absolutely not!

Because let’s face it… a little Cornish rain never hurt anyone, and we’ve had a pretty amazing summer! ☀️🌊

People say, “Why holiday in Cornwall?”
Oh, absolutely no reason… 😂

Here at The Griffin Newquay, we’re pretty proud of where we call home, and we like to keep plenty of Cornwall on the table too.

🚨🍺 BEFORE THE SUMMER HOLIDAYS END… WE NEED TO SAY SOMETHING.
So before we head into the final week of the school summer holidays, we want to say something that really matters…

To every single person who has walked through the doors of The Griffin Newquay this summer whether you stayed with us, came for dinner, had a pint, tackled a Sunday carvery, booked a function or simply popped in to say hello thank you for supporting your local.

And what a summer it’s been! ☀️🌊

We survived another brilliant Boardmasters 🎶, celebrated Newquay Carnival, watched plenty of FIFA football, enjoyed Wimbledon with what felt like ALLLL the Pimm’s 😂🍓🎾 and even had an eclipse thrown in for good measure!

We’ve hosted weddings, wakes, 40ths, 50ths, 80ths, family celebrations and everything in between. 🎉

We’ve celebrated new beginnings too, with our chef Simon and Chloe welcoming beautiful baby Freya into the world. 🩷

And sadly, this summer also brought loss. We said goodbye to Sam, our much loved bike man. ❤️

There have also been some lovely moments for our team, with medals handed out to members of staff in recognition of the brilliant job they do. 🏅👏 Sometimes the people working away every day deserve to hear just how appreciated they are.

We welcomed our new neighbours at The Nici and have loved building a friendship with the team next door.

And somehow, amongst all of that, our chefs have produced thousands of homemade dishes breakfasts, lunches, dinners, Cornish pasties, homemade pies, scones, buffets and more Sunday carveries than we dare count! 😂🍽️

So a HUGE thank you to our chefs, bar staff, front-of-house team and everyone working behind the scenes. It takes the whole team to keep The Griffin ticking, especially through a Cornish summer. 👏❤️

But this isn’t only about us.

🍺 With nearly TWO British pubs closing every single day, every pint, every meal, every room booking, every function, every review, every recommendation and every time you come back genuinely matters.

So here’s a shout-out to all our fellow Cornish pubs, hotels, restaurants and independent hospitality businesses working their socks off alongside us. 🌊🍺

🥧 MADE HERE. BAKED HERE. SERVED HERE. ❤️🍓
This is our latest buffet at The Griffin Newquay, and EVERYTHING you see here has been prepared right here in our own kitchen by our chefs. 👨‍🍳👏

Turkey & cranberry sandwiches, a mixture of cheese, ham, meat and egg mayonnaise sandwiches, Cornish pasties, homemade bacon & egg pie, and those lovely mini Cornish jam & cream scones topped with fresh strawberries. 🍓

It’s easy to look at a buffet and just see the finished table but there’s a huge amount of work that goes on behind the scenes. Preparing, baking, filling, cutting and getting everything out fresh.

A huge thank you to our chefs for preparing it all and to our lovely Polly for putting everything out and arranging the buffet so beautifully. ❤️👏 A proper team effort from kitchen to table!

And while we’re showing you behind the scenes… can we just appreciate how CLEAN those ovens are too?! 😂👏✨ Absolutely immaculate!

That says a lot about the standards our kitchen team keep every single day.

From birthdays and weddings to wakes, celebrations, meetings and private functions, we can cater for all sorts of occasions.

🥚🥛🌾 CORNISH SCONES. MADE IN CORNWALL. MADE FROM SCRATCH. 👨‍🍳❤️

This is how you do it…
We needed 96 freshly baked scones so our chefs got straight to work. And in speedy time, too. 💪🔥

No shop-bought scones arriving in boxes.
No “just heat them up.”
No unnecessary preservatives or nasties.

Just proper, simple ingredients:

🌾 Self-raising flour
🧈 Butter
🥛 Milk
🥚 Eggs
🍚 A little sugar
🧂 A pinch of salt
✨ A little baking powder for that perfect rise

And we know where our eggs, milk and flour come from.

Because a scone might be a simple recipe — but getting a simple recipe just right comes down to great ingredients and knowing how to cook.

And our chefs certainly know how to cook. 👨‍🍳👏

While they’re producing these, they’re also dealing with…
