Let me introduce you to something very special: our Metcalfe Rose.

In our early years of running the lodges, we were blessed with the most wonderful father‑and‑daughter duo who visited us every year. She was in her 70s, he in his late 90s, and together they brought with them a gentle kind of magic. Their visits were filled with stories, laughter, and the kind of moments that stay with you long after the season ends.

On one of their final stays, they gifted us a rose. A simple gesture, yet full of meaning. We planted it outside their favourite lodge, where it still grows today. We once knew its official variety, but to us it will forever be the Metcalfe Rose — a living reminder of two very special people and the joy they brought with them.

Some memories bloom long after the moment has passed. 🌹

There’s nothing quite like a slow boat trip on the Norfolk Broads in June — peaceful water, wildlife everywhere and that lovely feeling of the day unfolding at its own pace.

Many routes take you past waterside pubs or pretty villages, and it’s very easy to turn a simple boat ride into a whole afternoon of exploring, eating and relaxing. If you’re thinking of hiring your own boat, Wroxham Launch Hire is a favourite of ours — local, friendly and always happy to help you get started, even if you’re new to the Broads. And if you’d prefer to sit back and let someone else take the helm, the Southern Comfort paddle steamer at Horning is such a lovely way to experience the waterways.

There’s something wonderfully nostalgic about gliding along in comfort, watching the banks drift by and soaking up the calm of the Broads at their best.

If you’re heading over to Great Yarmouth during your stay, The Little Venetian Café is one of those spots that always delivers. Great food, friendly service, and that classic seaside charm that just feels good.

Right beside it sits the beautiful boating lake — a place that holds so many childhood memories for me. Sunny afternoons watching the pedalos glide by. It still has that same magic today, and it’s such a lovely place for guests to unwind, take a stroll, or enjoy a relaxed bite to eat.
