Before the rush of December arrives, give yourself one afternoon that feels like the start of something special.

This Christmas, we’re opening the castle doors for our wreath making workshops with .

📅 Saturday 22nd November
📅 Saturday 29th November

Your afternoon begins at 12pm with a tour of the castle and its rooms. Yes, that includes the haunted ones 👻

Then the wonderful team at Petals of Oban will guide you through creating your own Christmas wreath. Every stem, ribbon and sprig is provided, so all you need to bring is yourself (and perhaps a friend).

Around 2.30pm, you’ll settle into the Great Hall for afternoon tea. There’ll be sandwiches, scones and sweet treats by a crackling fire, surrounded by 420-year-old stone walls.

You’ll head home with a wreath you made with your own hands, and an afternoon you’ll remember every time you open your front door this winter.

£85 per person. Spaces are limited and filling up, so booking is essential.

September has a way of making us want to slow down 🏰

The summer rush begins to fade. The evenings draw in a little earlier. The hills around Loch Creran start to soften into the rich, golden colours of autumn, and suddenly a few days away feels less like a luxury and more like exactly what you need.

At Barcaldine Castle, you can wake in a room full of character, look out towards the loch and the mountains beyond, then begin the day with breakfast in the Great Hall. There is no need to fill every hour.

Take a walk to Tralee Beach. Watch the changing light over the water. Return to the warmth of the castle and settle in for the evening, with nowhere else you need to be.

A stay here is for the people who are tired of rushing through life. For those who want to celebrate something special, reconnect with someone they love, or simply spend time somewhere that makes the everyday feel very far away.

This autumn, give yourself a few days with a little more space, a little more stillness, and a view you will not forget.

Come away to your own castle🏰

Imagine arriving at Barcaldine Castle with the people you love, closing the door behind you, and knowing the whole castle is yours.

No busy schedules. No distractions. Just time together in a place filled with history, warmth and the quiet beauty of Argyll.

Set beside Loch Creran, Barcaldine Castle is made for exclusive use stays with family and friends. Six luxurious en-suite bedrooms offer a comfortable retreat at the end of the day, while the Great Hall and Laird’s Parlour invite you to settle in beside a roaring open fire. There is space to share long meals, open a bottle of something special, play games, talk late into the evening or simply enjoy being together.

Beyond the castle, the landscape is waiting. Take a walk through the surrounding countryside, breathe in the fresh Highland air, discover the nearby beach and return as the light begins to fade across the loch. In winter, the castle becomes especially magical, with bright, crisp days outside and the warmth of the fires waiting inside.

This is not simply somewhere to stay. It is a chance to step away from ordinary life and make memories in a place that feels wonderfully timeless.

For birthdays, anniversaries, family gatherings or an unforgettable escape with friends, Barcaldine Castle offers the rare pleasure of having a Scottish castle entirely to yourselves.

Gather your favourite people and come home to Argyll.

🏰 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝘁 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗹𝗲
Each winter, while the castle is closed, we carry out repairs and improvements behind the scenes.

Last winter’s project focused on the Great Hall, where we removed the Victorian lath and plaster to reveal the original 420-year-old stonework beneath. It was a messy job that took three months, but the result has completely transformed the space.

With the stone exposed, the artwork in the hall now stands out in a way it never has before.

The work itself was far from straightforward. All electrics and pipework hidden behind the walls had to be carefully rerouted or traced in. During the process, we uncovered an original lintel from the early 1600s, built using tree branches. The stone arches above the doors and windows were also revealed, an important part of the castle’s structure and defence, supporting the weight of the surrounding stone.

The photos show the journey from start to finish.

A big thank you to everyone involved in bringing this project to life:

Michael Hogg and Charlotte – Hogg Stonemasonry
Willie Neilson, Andy and Declan – Argyll Building Contractor because they have gone above and beyond to help with castle jobs and got us out of many a challenging situation.
Jonny Campbell and Connor – JC Electrical https://jcelectricaloban.com
Greig – Plumbing
Callum Mackay and Connor Ruggieri – Picture hanging

And to David Whitehead for his vision and investment, Caroline Campbell for project management, and Patrick and Cecilia for their help with the clean-up.
