Wearing a belt is NOT bracing…

There are a few factors which can impact a brace… pressure, spinal position, breathing patterns, current injury status etc etc

The fundamental problem with wearing a belt is that people just slap it on and think that’s it job done i’m braced and protected…

This is simply NOT the case, the belt is an external cue for you to brace into…

However, it is pivotal to note that if there are any active injuries, hernias, issues with blood pressure (high or low), circulation, pelvic floor issues or any other medical condition or physical issue then an increase in abdominal pressure and breath holding can make this WORSE.

Therefore it is important to consult a medical professional to find ways you can safely brace to avoid any detriment and still provide protection and safety to exercise.

Disclaimer - Do NOT perform any hard intense exercise on active injuries unless specified otherwise by a healthcare professional. Constantly feel stuck in a cycle?

Many do… and the solution may be more simple that you realise…

Light weights during aging… won’t do much, the body needs to be challenged, just ensure it’s safe and within capabilities.

3x10 on everything… potentially too generic

Avoiding certain movements bc of pain - in the short term good idea, but at least do something about the injury!!

Calorie deficit not working… maybe you’re not in a deficit overall, it doesn’t have to be massively strict just consistent.

Barely eating but weight isn’t shifting… - most likely reduced food volume but not total calorie intake, potentially snacking etc

Good all week then undo it at the weekend… if you like to chill more at weekends this is something we can cater for and accommodate by pre planning

Working so hard but feel burnt out and nothings working… Maybe you are pushing certain aspects to hard and your body needs to slow down… there are so many factors which can affect progress.

Sick of just doing sit ups?

Do you know what your core actually consists of?

Most people just do sit ups and planks and expect to get results… all whilst giving themselves back pain in the process…

The truth is the core is a 3D stability system built to support and move the spine, when your core function improves, the function of virtually all other areas of the body can improve as well…

Maximise your pressing with this simple tip!!!

So many people neglect proper shoulder function and locking and their lifts pay the price! Either that or they end up injured 🤕

Learning how to maximise the function of the shoulder joint can massively benefit your pressing AND improve total body control.

Shoulder pain on chest day…

Most of us have been there… most people ignore it and just train around it avoiding the actual reason.

The pain doesn’t necessarily mean something is broken… it also doesn’t necessarily mean you have a dodgy “rotator cuff” 🤓

It could be due to a lack of strength in the scapular stabilisers and no emphasis on scapular locking.

The shoulder plays a vital role when it comes to any upper body work but in particular pressing, if the scapular isn’t stable the shoulder head hasn’t got a chance!!!

So go and find the issue - an assessment of posture, movement and scapular stability strength is a good place to start , then do the work!!!!

Shoulder pain is so common in the gym but a lot don’t time it can be improved with very simple interventions!!!

Putting hours in the gym but feel like your chest never grows?

Do you incorporate all of the things on this checklist?

Some reasons for a lack of chest progress can come down to injury, poor shoulder stability, lack of intensity or volume and simply not tracking progress…

DM to work 1-1 with me for injury rehabilitation + strength & conditioning coaching.

Rehab doesn’t always mean you have to stop training….

See here an activation based rehab protocol we implemented into all lower body training for Lily Gregory🍓✨🫧

Initial testing of the ACL, PCL, MCL, LCL and meniscus all came back negative. Pain was experienced in the posterior aspect of the knee during flexion.

Based on movement and hands on assessing we outlined pain to coming through the popliteus muscle, this is a small triangular muscle that runs over the back of the knee originating from the lateral condyle of the femur and inserting into the posterior proximal tibia on the medial aspect. The muscle supports slight rotation in the knee during flexion and aids the flexion of the joint when going from straight to bent.

The pain was coming in towards the end range of flexion (knee bend).

Slide 1: Hamstring sliders without a glute bridge to gently mobilise knee flexion and promote blood flow.

Slide 2: Banded tibial internal rotation, keeping the knee position fixed and avoiding movement from the hip.

Slide 3: Single-leg heel-elevated squats with band resistance to improve control during initial knee flexion.

Slide 4: Controlled single-leg flexion, starting with light loads and progressing only when the full range is pain-free.

Constantly tweaking your workouts to accommodate aches and pains?

It might be time you addressed the underlying root cause…

Constantly avoiding unstable movements just because it’s ‘safer’ or puts less pressure on external factors is killing your ability to move bit by bit…

Get an assessment, find the issue, avoid painful movement WHILST RECOVERING THE Root CAUSE, never work directly through pain and build a body that actually lasts…

It’s not age that’s killing your movement, it’s neglect…

Constantly avoiding movements that are painful? Always trying to recover from the same injuries?

This might be why…

So often people do remedial or temporary treatments, massage, cupping, even painkillers but all these do are provide short term pain relief.

You need to address the root cause and the reason for the pain, get it assessed do the rehab and build up from there.

And if your rehab plan is just stretching sorry to say it most likely won’t fix the issue either 🙃

DM to work 1-1 in person or online, s&c coaching, sports therapy & injury rehab 📥

Constantly re booking massages to try and fix an old soft tissue injury?

This might be masking the real issue…

The first step in injury rehab is to always outline the areas of weakness and the root cause, then produce a treatment plan to accommodate safe and effective recovery of those areas.

Remember to NEVER work through pain, no pain no gain is not a good mantra. It is ALWAYS advised to get an assessment of pain and injury before implementing any form of treatment or exercise modality.
