We have spoken on our posts several times about the magic of Parbold, Douglas Valley and West Lancashire in general.
Last year we saw a half circle double rainbow but what made it special was that for the first time we saw the end of a rainbow...
Not for one moment did we think we would get to experience that optical illusion again but with the recent weather changes one early weekend morning we saw another!

It's so fleeting and you have to quickly grab your camera.

As children most of us remember the magic of a rainbow and the Irish folklore around a pot of gold.
Modern day it references dreams, ambitions, personal rewards....so we hope that good luck shines on Mill Cottage in the future. 😊

We had heard that The Wayfarer's new breakfast menu had arrived so we had to try and we are so glad we did!

What a wonderful surprise! The full English breakfast was delicious 😋
The hash brown and bacon deserve a special mention.

All the food is created from scratch in the kitchen and you can tell it's cooked with care and attention to detail. A very deceptive portion size too!

Previously we felt the breakfast offering was ok but lacked the quality ingredients so it's great to see these new changes.
Only suggestion would be to give the guests the option of how they would like their eggs done.

The only thing that detracted from our extremely enjoyable food was that the service didn't quite match.
We appreciate that it's Sunday morning and for some of the young staff were a little sullen, so the welcome was a bit luke warm and no member of staff asked us if we enjoyed our food at any stage. Easily rectified.
Good to see the pub had a few tables in for breakfast and by lunchtime the place was full!

The wildlife here in Douglas Valley is amazing but you have to look around you and even above you to experience it. ♥️

It's been a busy week here at Mill Cottage!
We are just finishing off a few details before our next guests arrive later today.
Replacing door mats, bulb replacements, washing cushion covers, fixing the oven, washing the shower curtain, trunking that has come away from the wall, battery replacements, pictures frames that have fallen down, as well as adding our scarecrows in the front and back garden, getting built up moss off the outside light, and reuniting guests with their property that they accidentally left behind.
Phew!
We need a brew and a rest but there's more to do before our guests arrive so let's go!

Dropped in for a coffee and a pastry this morning at Common Ground in Parbold.
We have included the food and drinks menu in case you haven't visited yet.
Friendly welcome and enjoyable.
Our next visit we will try some of the food offerings.
A popular place with regular visitors especially at the weekend!

Well after three successful years it was finally time to say goodbye to DA Celebrations Oh Crumbs Bakery.
They shut their doors at Parbold for the final time on Saturday 10th October.
We made one last visit to wish Darren and Allan well and thank them for all they've given to the community.
Clearly bitter sweet for them, they relocate their business to Haydock with hope and optimism. We think they will be a roaring success. Hpefully open on the 2nd November.
We enjoyed having several milkshakes and cakes....and yes the last image is indeed a full bag of sweets from their traditional sweet shop 🫣 Got a bit carried away 😊
You can still order online and have deliveries to Parbold or the surrounding area.
