Two of our dogs Fergus and Gwen came from Many Tears rescue in Carmarthenshire 10 and 9 years ago . After a very sad start to both their lives we were given the gift of these 2 precious characters. Have a read support or share this post. Many thanks to them and the care they give every single pup 🐶
🚨 MANY TEARS URGENTLY NEEDS YOUR HELP - AND WE NEED TO BE HONEST ABOUT WHY 🩵
Today, we were asked to put out a statement regarding a “significant organisational restructure”.
We, the staff at Many Tears, feel very strongly that you, our supporters deserve a better explanation of what is actually happening on the ground, and why we are in urgent need of your help.
For more than 20 years, Many Tears Animal Rescue has given tens of thousands of dogs a second chance at life.
Dogs who spent their lives producing puppies, often knowing little beyond a kennel. Dogs who had never slept on a sofa, felt grass beneath their paws, walked on a lead or known the love of a family. Dogs who were abandoned once they had served their purpose.
Today, the rescue itself needs a lifeline. Yesterday, we were told 32 staff members are at imminent risk of losing their jobs. That is half of our team. We are told this somehow won’t reduce the number of dogs we can safely rescue, but we cannot fathom how we can continue to rescue the number of dogs we do, and provide them with the standard of care they deserve.
Behind the scenes, we’ve spent months uncovering serious historic problems that weren’t caused by the staff who are now working to fix them. We were not made aware of how bad the financial situation is, until yesterday. The staff are now fighting once again to secure the future of Many Tears, and we cannot do it alone.
We are asking our supporters to stand with Many Tears Animal Rescue at one of the most difficult moments in our history.
The last year has brought enormous upheaval. At the end of 2025, Many Tears became the subject of a sustained hate campaign, with countless allegations and rumours spreading across social media and private groups.
In March, Animal Licensing Wales opened an investigation, which is still ongoing. We are keen to work with local authorities to move forward to a better future. However, we are still awaiting the outcome of the investigation. This means we have lost our usual grants and funding sources, and the rescue has seen an unsustainable drop in income. Our reserve funds won’t see us to the end of year.
The fear, uncertainty and stress put onto our staff has been immeasurable. Our CEO and founders resigned. We had no idea the extent of the historic issues left behind, and we certainly had not understood the scale of what we would be left to deal with.
It would have been easier to walk away. Instead, we stayed and faced it head on, for the animals that need us.
We have created individualised, dog and equine centred care which now means the cost of each animal rescued has increased.
Our poor maintenance men have an ever-growing list of things around the rescue that need modernising, upgrading, and fixing in order for us to keep rescuing in the way we do. Every single staff member is working SO hard to maintain improvements whilst giving dogs their absolute best.
The inherited problems will cost well over £250,000 to resolve, and this is without even covering our day-to-day costs.
All of this alongside the cost of living crisis, and the every day struggles all rescues face.
This is threatening to consume money that we desperately need for the animals. Money that could pay veterinary bills. Money that could fund essential treatment. Money that could help us say “yes” to the next animal who desperately needs us.
This is the reality we are facing.
🩵 But we are not giving up. We are determined to build a rescue that is safer, more accountable, more compliant and, above all, continues to provide exceptional care for the animals who need us.
But determination alone won't pay for it all.
This is where we need you…
If Many Tears has ever rescued a dog you loved...
If any of our horses have brought you joy…
If we have ever helped you when you had nowhere else to turn...
If one of our dogs has ever changed your life...
If you believe that the dogs who need us deserve a second chance…
Or maybe you just have a passion for animals and helping the forgotten souls…
Please help us keep going.
