There are so many great things to do for families close to us. We headed over to Dalkeith Country Park on Saturday to check out the newly renovated cafe & to go for a dog walk. It didn’t disappoint. The new interior in the cafe & Restoration Yard are beautiful and the food was delicious. Check out the Croque Monsieur and the rocky road! Both come highly recommended. A wander round the shop was joyful as always. For the kids, the jellycat selection, Fort Douglas Play Park and Go Ape Dalkeith, Edinburgh are always a huge hit.

Next week is an exciting week in the Scottish Events calendar. The Royal Highland Show is on at Ingliston just outside Edinburgh from Thursday 18th to Sunday 21st June 2026. It’s a firm favourite with our family and showcases the best in Scottish food, drink, livestock, showjumping & crafts. There is something for everyone. It’s an event we look forward to every year and one you don’t want to miss.

If you are looking for beautiful rural accommodation nearby we have availability in a couple of our shepherd huts.

On Sunday after changeovers we did something a bit different. We went to the Open Farm Event at Walston Breahead Farm, the home of and had a very interesting visit. We got to meet their herd of 400 dairy Lacaune sheep, their herd of dairy goats which is made up of Saanen, Toggenberg and British Alpine goats and saw the sheep being milked to produce the following day’s cheese.

Errington run a range of different tours - a cheese tour alongside lambing & kidding tours. The next kidding tours will be in July so check out their website for more details. For our next visit we are planning the cheese tour as their cheeses are a firm favourite with Simon.

We ended our trip with a visit to to buy some cheese & tasty cakes made by Andrew’s Mum.

This Sunday 7th June Selina & Andrew Cairns are hosting an Open Farm Sunday event at their farm at Walston Breahead Farm, Elsrickle, ML11 8NF. Meet the goats & sheep that produce the milk that is used to make their award winning cheese at and which is sold at .

Tours are running every hour and spots are selling fast. To book

Our signs have arrived and we couldn’t be happier with them! Huge thanks to Elenya & Rheece of both for making them and hand delivering them while coming to Scotland on holiday. They are beautifully made and reflect the love & care that Elenya & Rheece put into their work. You can never beat a hand crafted product.

Since opening in September we have welcomed guests from all over the world as well as local guests from Edinburgh and the Lothians.

Getting the site open was anything but easy so we appreciate the wonderful feedback all the more. On Booking.com we have 90 reviews ranking us as Exceptional with 9.7/10, on Airbnb 43 reviews rating us 4.95/5* and on Google 40 5* reviews.

Thank you so much to everyone who has visited and given such generous feedback. We wanted this place to be somewhere people could come to relax and escape the busyness of everyday life and that is exactly what it is.
