Kernock has four cottages on a 22-acre estate which, booked together sleep 16. Each has a private parking, garden and hot tub and access to a 6-acre dog park. Plenty of communal grounds to come together for a game of croquet, rounders or for a special picnic.

The House of Marbles is a great day out. It is free entry and parking, the museum is free, there are some super displays including intricate marble runs designed by a Swiss engineer, and the shop prices are remarkably good (pocket money prices). If you’re lucky with timings, you can watch glass-blowing too.

The cafe is excellent and there is a good outdoor play area (including marble runs).

There is a glass-crafting workshop within the complex - Berserks Glass Gallery & Teaching Studio at House of Marbles. Crafting classes have to be pre-booked, but the gallery shop is always open.

All this, just 40 minutes from Kernock at Bovey Tracey.

We have had several roe deer on the estate in recent weeks and managed to get this close-up to share with everyone.

She could sense I was there but wasn’t sure so just kept coming closer. So beautiful, and filmed on Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday, of all days.
