Finlaggan is one of the most historically important sites in Scotland. Situated beside Loch Finlaggan in the north-east of Islay, it was the principal ceremonial and administrative centre of the Lordship of the Isles, a powerful Gaelic maritime lordship that dominated much of western Scotland and the Hebrides during the Middle Ages.
