🦙 Meet the alpacas (boy edition)🦙

Our herd is made up of lots of different characters!

You may notice that Colin and C**t aren’t with the older boys. That’s because they’re still young, ‘whole’ males, so for now they have their own paddock right next door.

Living side by side means they can see each other every day, get used to one another, and slowly build their friendships as the youngsters grow up.

Whether it’s Ni**od trying to get to the treats first, Jericho deciding the rules don’t apply to him, or Colin quietly following C**t’s lead, every alpaca has a story to tell.

Who’s your favourite so far? 🤎🦙

We're lucky enough to see views like this every day, but they never get old. 🌿

This little video captures a glimpse of East Shilvinghampton, along with one of our cabins nestled into the landscape.

Can you picture yourself here?

We promise you it's every bit as beautiful – if not more so – when you're standing here in person. 😌

POV: you discover the alpacas are half the size after their haircut 😂🦙

Shearing is an essential part of alpaca care, especially before the warmer weather arrives. Their fleece (also known as fibre) grows thick and heavy over the year, so a yearly shear helps keep them cool and happy.

And that incredibly soft fibre doesn’t go to waste — alpaca fleece is one of the warmest, softest and most sustainable natural fibres in the world. It’s lightweight, hypoallergenic, and beautifully insulating. 🤍

Blue skies this Bank Holiday, but no rest for the farmers 🌞🚜

It’s been a very busy day for us on the farm — not only was it changeover day for our glampers, with tents needing to be cleaned and prepared, but it was also time for silage making too.

From field to silage pit, the grass has been cut, collected, transported, rolled and sheeted down, ready to become this winter’s feed for the animals. A huge team effort all round, making the most of the sunshine while it lasts! 🌱💪

Somewhere between architecture and nature 🌾
Our first cabin now has its own living roof — blending quietly into the landscape, just as we imagined.

Shilvington has been owned and farmed by our family (the Bartletts 🙌) since the 1930s. Now in its fourth generation, Martin and Joby lead the day-to-day running of the farm – which, having diversified over the years, now includes all sorts of things that would’ve been unheard of back in the day! 🌿

From farming and alpaca walks to Feather Down stays, the holiday cottage, caravan site and now the cabins and sauna, there’s always something going on here. 😅

You can find out a bit more about the farm and the many reasons to visit on our website: https://www.shilvington.co.uk/about-us/

We’ve been thinking about summer a lot these last few days... 😌
Shorts and T-shirts, sun on your face, evenings that don’t end at 5pm… 🙄

And it seems we’re not the only ones – we’ve had a lovely little flurry of bookings come in for the cottage and Feather Down tents recently. 🙂

It’s really nice knowing people are already planning ahead for warmer days. They are coming… even if January is doing its best to convince us otherwise!! Hang in there people! 😁
