On 6th June 1944, Allied forces landed on the beaches of Normandy in the largest seaborne invasion in history, marking the turning point of the Second World War.

In early 1944, Knockinaam Lodge was said to be the setting for a clandestine meeting between Prime Minister Winston Churchill and US General Dwight Eisenhower, where they quietly plotted the finer details of the D-Day landings.
