Secluded, rural, pop-up retreat with 2 spacious comfortable and fully set up bell tents, a small shepherd's hut and only 2 woodland camping spots. These are sited in a exclusively private field - No crowds! - just our guests with max 10 Adults ( plus some children) on site. Quiet, generous 6 acre paddock in a valley with meadows, ponds and woodlands - just outside beautiful market town of Ross-On-

Wye. Itโ€™s nearly wild camping with comforts! Peaceful, off-grid location, with dark skies at night and extensive area to roam freely, enjoying long summer days. Here, you are encouraged to put your feet up and embrace the moment. Enjoy the freedom and space, sit by the campfire, relax in a hammock or reconnect with nature. Listen to the buzzards above you, spot the woodpecker or heron or perhaps catch a glimpse of Canada geese landing on one of the ponds near you. Our bell tents are fully equipped with all you need for your stay (apart from food and your favourite tipple!) and you have full access to your private toilet/shower room. There is a fire pit and charcoal BBQ per tent available with a variety of outdoor seating and also a sheltered communal Summer kitchen (exclusive for our bell tents guests) with small fridge and gas hob if you don't fancy cooking on a BBQ or fire. Shepherd's hut is modestly furnished and comfortable, sleeping 2 adults. There's a outdoor kitchenette, charcoal bbq, fire pit and outdoor seating for your enjoyment. Along with extensive, tree top evening views. Hot shower and flushing toilets are shared and are available short stroll away. Woodland camping spots are equipped with a picnic bench and fire pit, washing up facilities and access to hit showers and flushing loo. The paddock is definitely a shared space :) the valley is a habitat for many creatures and wildlife! If you respect that and are quiet enough, you will no doubt hear an owl hooting, see some squirrels, mallards, coots, frogs, dragonflies or maybe even a fox or a muntjac deer. โ€ฆ. Switch off, unwind and simply โ€œbeโ€! Here, you can be as idle or as active as you wish as there are plenty of adventures and activities on our doorstep... cycling, canoeing, paddleboarding? fancy a visit to a castle or nearby market town? or a visit to a museum? how about a vineyard or cider tour? or a family workshop at a forge? Birds of prey centre, anyone?? Don't forget the Royal Forest of Dean with acres of woodland to explore and our beautiful Herefordshire and Wye Valley countryside with miles of footpaths to walk! You couldn't be in a better spot. Stay @ Ryeford Ponds evolved as an add-on project to our usual activity - conventional farming. Our core operations here at Wharton Farm include growing potatoes, oil seed r**e, barley, wheat and grass seed. We were fortunate enough to find ourselves 'stranded' in this stunning part of the world during the Summer of 2020 and various lockdowns. With limited travel options but huge passion for nature, all things outdoors, good food and great company, an idea of a simple yet comfortable hideout was born and many evenings were spent at campfires dreaming of 'what it might be like'.... with its off grid set up, sensible approach to 'creature comforts' and low impact on ecosystems and local habitat ... here it is! 1. Penyard Private Pool Hire ( find them on insta) - just minutes away from the campsite, with a proper 'abroad' vibe - heated pool in stunning location
2. Puzzlewood Coleford - amazing place in any weather but especially in the Summer, fresh and green.
3. Clearwell Caves Coleford - wow, a true underground gem - you won't want to resurface! so pleasantly cool and mega interesting. So much geology and local heritage here.
4. St Anthony's Well - shhhhh secret location ( on google maps!) ... a healing well ideal for ( very cold) summer dips under the canopy of beautiful beech trees.
5. Bathurst Pool - fabulous lido near Lydney - we love it! Lydney is also worth a visit and Lydney docks.
6. Cinderford Palace Cinema - our local, traditional and charming cinema, bonus - AIRCONDITIONED ๐Ÿฅถ ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป and affordable, with current films and yummy popcorn. You'll love it!

Other ideas - Waterworks Museum - Hereford Hereford Cathedral Gloucester Cathedral ... and of course if you are suffering in this heat popping in to the freezer aisle in a supermarket works a treat too!
And don't forget that many cafes in Ross ( @ Visit Ross-on-Wye ) also have their A/C on - Coffee #1 serves a lovely brew with a great view of the Market House, we also love a shady spot at Riverside Inn or Hen and Dot Cafe - Flanesford Priory - enjoy!

When you are staying with us you are truly in for a treat - no crowds and not your usual commercialised and exposed camping ground but plenty of sheltered spaces and shade, reliable fridges, amazingly green valley throughout the summer, hammocks and benches for many restful moments alone and nearly 6 acres to walk about and slow down the pace of life... no need to rush off out if you don't want to.

๐Ÿ• choose a campsite with a good variety of options with sun/shade areas - obviously we highly recommend looking through the Greener Camping Club selection - all fabulous places and we couldn't just pick one (hmmm unless it's our place of course!)
๐ŸŒฌ bring your biggest fan with you .... portable and rechargeable/ battery-powered fans are just brilliant ( we supply them for our glampers keeping the bell tents and shepherd's hut breezy!)
โ›บ๏ธ make use of vents and mesh windows - fab for a light breeze at night
๐Ÿ˜Ž try pitching in an area with the morning shade, use a blackout tent or dr**e a reflective tarp over your setup
๐ŸงŠkeep a couple of damp towels amongst your freezer blocks or in your fridge and place them on your neck when too hot to cool yourself off

Especially the longer, marathon route Tom and his mates achieved. Weather wasn't overly kind with much rain throughout the day so everyone felt exhausted at the finis line.... We all carried our own personal goals along the way, emotional day for all. โ™ฅ๏ธ BUT WE DID IT!
We were well cared for all the way by the team of volunteers- with kind words, support and delicious food. Well organised event if you ever thinking of doing it yourself!

We are super excited for the sixth season of outdoor adventures and camping fun!

Together with a group of friends Tom and I are taking on the incredible landscape of Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons) and hiking a marathon and a half marathon distances for Cancer Research UK ( you probably guessed who is doing which! ;) )

All of you keen sporty and fit folks... well ... hats off to you for all the crazy iron man distances, ultra marathons and all well deserved medals. Kudos!

Those who know me well, know for sure that I don't run (much!) ...and only do two type of runs:
1. "School run" (in most literal sense - run to the school gate! Because I am always so behind!)
2. "Run away" from some sort of danger - basically if you see me run... you better run too! type of scenario.

BUTโ€ฆ I do โค๏ธ๐Ÿฅพ๐Ÿ—บ love a good walk, ramble or a hike!
