A Brief History of Woodland Grange

1888 – Woodland Grange was built for retired Army Major Richard Warner Brooks. The 12-room house stood on seven acres, complete with servants’ quarters, a lodge, its own water supply and a servants’ bell system. The original lodge was relocated in 1994 to make way for the Leamington Road roundabout.

1934 – Henry Maxwell Blenkinsop and his wife purchased the property for £6,500 raising their eight children there. Family memories include rowing along the River Avon to Saxon Mill for picnics and a cheeky chalked “W” on the gateposts to summon the cycling ice cream seller!

1940 – During the war, the house served as an air raid post. An incendiary bomb fell behind the house on 29 October but caused no damage.

1960 – The Salvation Army purchased the property for £15,000, using it as a probationary home for girls.

1968 – Coventry and District Engineering Employers Association acquired Woodland Grange for £28,000.

19 April 1969 – Lord Stokes officially opened Woodland Grange as a management training centre. The first courses covered Production Control, Job Evaluation and Work Study.

From a family home to a wartime post, a residential home and finally a conference venue, Woodland Grange has a fascinating history spanning generations!

Planning a business meeting involves more than booking a room.

The right space, layout, AV, catering and accessibility all need to work together... and leaving those decisions until the last minute can make the day harder to manage.

We’ve put together a practical meeting planning guide to help organisers work through the key decisions in the right order, including:

☑️ Creating a clear meeting brief
☑️ Choosing the right venue
☑️ Selecting room size and layout
☑️ Confirming AV and connectivity
☑️ Planning catering and accessibility
☑️ Preparing for the day itself

There’s also a practical meeting planning checklist to help keep the details on track.

Autumn tastes pretty good at Woodland Grange 🍂

There’s plenty cooking at Woodland Grange as we head into autumn and winter…

Working with our catering partners at Wilson Vale, the team has a whole host of seasonal food days coming up – from warming comfort-food lunches and homemade bread to autumnal salad bars, British puddings and winter warmer desserts.

And because great meetings aren't just about what happens in the meeting room, we love finding little ways to make the delegate experience that bit more memorable.

Just one more reason to look forward to an autumn meeting at Woodland Grange.
