Yesterday morning was a particularly good one in the Magnolia House kitchen.

Home-grown cherry tomatoes, fresh passion fruit, a newly baked loaf and focaccia dough rising nicely.

We love being able to bring home-grown and homemade touches into breakfast for our guests. It takes a little extra time, but it is all part of the care that goes into a stay with us.

And yes, we were feeling rather pleased with ourselves.

One of the best things about staying in Rye is having so much choice nearby.

You could spend the morning wandering through the historic town, take an afternoon walk at Rye Harbour or head towards Camber Sands for fresh air and open views.

We may have missed International Pirate Month this year, but this photo was far too good to leave buried in the treasure chest!

Our guests certainly know how to make an entrance. We’ll be keeping this one safe for next year… assuming we remember where we buried it.

🏴‍☠️ Pirates are taking over Rye this Saturday!

Rye Pirates and Smugglers Day returns on Saturday 8 August 2026, with a full day of free entertainment across the town.

The crew will muster at the Gun Gardens from 10am, before the parade sets off through Rye at 11am towards the Strand.

Expect live music, re-enactments, children’s entertainment, best-dressed competitions and the Smugglers’ Market at Strand Quay. It is a brilliant way to experience Rye’s history, character and slightly mischievous side.
