Todd and Gunn Cottages Wasdale Lake District

Todd and Gunn Cottages Wasdale Lake District Four beautiful self catering cottages in the Wasdale valley, Lake District national park. Close to mountains, fells, beaches, lakes and rivers. The Bridge Inn.

Four gorgeous, cozy, self catering cottages, nestled in the beautiful splendour of the Wasdale valley in the Lake District National Park, Cumbria. The first two cottages, Todd & Gunn are in Santon Bridge. Snuggled around a cobbled courtyard, each cottage has one bedroom, with an open plan kitchen/dining/living room and lovely enclosed south facing gardens. Originally 'Todd and Gunn' formed the milking parlour for Hallflat Farm and still possess many of the original features - minus the cows of course! Both cottages have a fully equipped kitchen, seating areas both indoors and out for your dining pleasure, Freeview television and DVD player with plenty of interesting DVDs to watch, books, games and a CD player/radio. There is also free Wifi in both cottages. Our prices are fully inclusive of towels and bed linen, gas, electricity and initial log supply for the wood burning stoves. We are a short stroll to the local friendly pub. The second two cottages are a Brock & Bramble cottages, 5 minutes down the road in Gosforth. Still within the national park, Brock & Bramble are lovingly restored cottages. Brock sleeps 4 in 2 bedrooms (plus it has a large sofabed so it can sleep 6 if needed). It has 2 bathrooms, 1 ensuite. It has a large open plan kitchen, diner, living room and a separate sitting room, with log burner of course. Bramble is the smaller cottage and sleeps 2. The cottages can be interconnected for larger groups. Both cottages have enclosed gardens and off road parking. Gosforth is a lovely little village with pub and shop. All our cottages are completely 'dog friendly' and welcomes dogs of all shapes, sizes and breeds. As dog lovers ourselves, we totally understand that your doggy family should be able to enjoy your holidays with you, so bring them all along too. We happily welcome 4 dogs - but do get in touch if you want to bring more. Dogs are allowed on the sofas (please bring and use a throw); but we don't allow dogs on the beds. The Wasdale/Eskdale area, in all its natural spendor, remains a quieter part of The Lake District, allowing you the peace which the central Lakes with its tourists and traffic jams, does not. There are so many things to do here in the more tranquil Western Lake District, with walks staring right at our door. More adventurous folk may wish to take on the larger 'Wainwrights' including Great Gable, Scafell and Scafell Pike. For more restful days there are lower fell walks, woodland walks and walks along and around Ennerdale and Wastwater Lakes and the River Irt. You can visit the pretty village of Gosforth, or head out a little way to the coast where you will find St Bees and its beach, Silecroft beach, Drigg and Seascale beaches, Ravenglass and its Roman Ruins and pretty shops, or entertain yourselves by taking a trip on La'al Ratty, a steam train which takes you along the Eskdale Valley. Sit back and enjoy the view. If you'd like to make the rather daring drive over Hardknott pass, you can easily access Coniston and the ever popular village of Hawkshead and the rest of the central lakes. We highly recommend a day out to explore Muncaster castle, its grounds and Owl Sanctuary. They have year round family fun events to keep everyone amused on a rainy day. We are surrounded by fabulous places to eat, most being dog friendly so your pals can enjoy a rest after their day out.

One of the best things about staying at Todd & Gunn Cottages? The walks right on your doorstep 🥾🌿

Whether you fancy a gentle stroll around Wastwater, a wander through woodland at Blengdale Forest, a coastal walk at Seascale Beach… or you’re taking on a challenge like Scafell Pike, there’s something for every pace and ability nearby.

A few favourites close to the cottages include…
📍 Wastwater – peaceful lakeside walks, wild swimming spots and a pub stop at Wasdale Head Inn
📍 Seascale Beach – dog friendly, family friendly and home to a brilliant ice cream shop
📍 River Irt – shaded riverside walks perfect on warmer days
📍 Blengdale Forest – quiet woodland routes and beautiful scenery
📍 Ennerdale Water – one of the quieter parts of the Lakes with incredible views
📍 Scafell Pike & Pillar – for those looking for a proper challenge

The hardest part might be deciding which walk to do first!

Please always plan routes properly and don’t rely solely on phone maps, especially for more challenging hikes!

Which type of Lake District walker are you… gentle stroll or summit challenge?
