🎃 SATURDAY SPOTLIGHT – HALLOWEEN SPECIAL! 👻🐾

A Hauntingly Beautiful Norfolk Walk... with a Ghostly Tale to Tell! 🍂

This Halloween, we're heading to somewhere rather special — the magnificent Blickling Estate, near Aylsham.

With its grand Jacobean mansion, beautiful woodland, sweeping parkland and autumn colours, it's a wonderful place to explore with your four-legged companion.

But did you know that Blickling is also home to one of Norfolk's most famous ghost stories? 👻

🏰 The Ghost of Anne Boleyn

Blickling is believed to have been the birthplace of Anne Boleyn, Henry VIII's ill-fated second wife.

Legend has it that Anne's ghost returns to Blickling in a spectral carriage drawn by four headless horses, accompanied by a headless coachman. Anne herself is said to travel with her own severed head resting in her lap!

Spooky stuff indeed! 😱

According to folklore, her ghostly return takes place on 19 May, the anniversary of her ex*****on in 1536.

🐾 But there's nothing frightening about the dog walks!

The National Trust estate offers wonderful woodland trails, parkland and lakeside walks, particularly beautiful at this time of year when the trees are dressed in shades of gold, copper and russet. 🍁

Dogs are welcome throughout much of the estate, and you can even round off your walk with something warming at the dog-friendly Muddy Boots Café. ☕🐶

Perfect for a crisp autumn day, with a little Norfolk history and mystery thrown in!

🐾 Dogs are welcome in the parkland under close control, with leads required in certain areas. Dogs cannot enter the historic house.

🍂🐾 WEDNESDAY WALKIES – BACTON WOODS 🐾🍂

🌳 A Woodland Wonderland in North Norfolk!

There's something rather magical about a woodland walk in autumn. Crunchy leaves underfoot, sunlight filtering through the trees and a thousand wonderful scents for our four-legged friends to investigate! 🥰

This week's Wednesday Walkies takes us to beautiful Bacton Woods, also known as Witton Woods, near North Walsham.

Managed by Forestry England, this lovely woodland is home to towering conifers, magnificent old oaks and a network of peaceful paths just waiting to be explored.

🐶 Perfect for a good sniffari!

There's a 1.3-mile woodland trail taking in some of the woods' most impressive trees, or you can venture along the other woodland tracks for a longer wander.

🍁 With its changing autumn colours and peaceful atmosphere, it's a lovely alternative to a beach walk and a wonderful place to enjoy some fresh Norfolk air.

As we continue our October Sunday Roast series, we're heading into the beautiful Norfolk countryside this week, and we've found somewhere that looks just perfect for an autumn Sunday! 😍🔥

🍽 – The Brisley Bell

A traditional and beautiful country inn is bursting with character. Think roaring open fires, exposed wooden beams, cosy little corners and delicious home-cooked food. Everything you could wish for after a crisp autumn walk! 🍁

The Brisley Bell is known for its excellent food, with traditional Sunday roasts and seasonal dishes showcasing quality ingredients from local suppliers.

🐾 And the best bit for our four-legged visitors?

Dogs are warmly welcomed in the bar and snug, so nobody needs to miss out on that cosy pub atmosphere!

🌳 Walkies before lunch?

Directly opposite the pub is beautiful Brisley Common, a designated County Wildlife Site with open grassland, ponds, scrub and wonderful countryside scenery.

There are circular walking routes starting right from the pub, making it a lovely place to stretch those paws, enjoy some fresh Norfolk air and work up an appetite before settling down for Sunday lunch.

What could be nicer than a countryside wander followed by a delicious roast beside a crackling fire? 🥰

Big skies, riverside views and a little bit of Roman history. 🐾

Wednesday Walkies this week takes us to Burgh Castle, where you can wander past the remains of a Roman fort and down towards the River Waveney.

The circular walk is only around 1½ miles, so it’s perfect if you fancy a shorter wander with plenty to look at along the way.

🍂 Cosy Sundays: Dog-Friendly Norfolk Roasts 🐾

Our October search for lovely places to combine autumn walks, muddy paws and a proper Sunday roast continues…

And this week we're heading to the coast. 🌊

The Ship Inn, Mundesley sits overlooking the sea and feels rather perfectly placed for an autumn Sunday — wrap up warm, enjoy a walk along the beach with the dogs, then retreat inside for a roast and those wonderful sea views.

And when we say dog friendly, we really mean it here — four-legged visitors are welcome throughout the inn, including the restaurant and bar. 🐾❤️

October is also a particularly good time to visit because the summer dog restrictions at Mundesley Beach have finished, meaning you and the dogs can enjoy the whole beach again.
