One of our favourite annual traditions! Our friend visits us from Guernsey each year and brings along his moth trap. Despite the name, it’s completely harmless – simply a light inside a box that attracts moths overnight.

In the morning, each moth is carefully identified, recorded and admired before being safely released back into the bushes to continue its day.

Here are some of the fascinating species he found during this year’s visit. Nature never fails to surprise us with the incredible variety of wildlife right on our doorstep! 🦋✨

Not many people know this, but just a short walk from The Old Forge is one of the country’s most incredible butterfly spots 🦋

Right on our doorstep, the Dorset Downs are absolutely alive at the moment — clouds of Adonis Blues, Chalk Hill Blues, Brimstones and even the rare Glanville Fritillary fluttering through the wildflowers 💛

With skylarks singing overhead and rolling chalk hills stretching into the distance, this landscape feels wonderfully untouched. It’s the kind of place that invites you to slow down, breathe deeply and reconnect with nature 🌿

We feel incredibly lucky to call this thriving organic downland home — and even luckier to be able to share these doorstep walks with our guests.

Not many people know this, but just a short walk from The Old Forge is one of the country’s most incredible butterfly spots 🦋

Our chalk downland is absolutely alive at the moment with Adonis Blues, Chalk Hill Blues, Brimstones and even the rare Glanville Fritillary butterfly 💛

With skylarks singing overhead and wildflowers stretching across the hills, it really is a breathtaking place to slow down and reconnect with nature. We feel so lucky to have this thriving organic landscape right on our doorstep 🌿

I found an old Sawday’s book in a charity shop today — and there we were in it from some years ago. Such a lovely surprise to see, and a reminder of what we’ve always stood for. A slower pace, simple pleasures and taking time to appreciate the important things in life… although we all know that slowing down isn’t always easy! 💚
