Yesterday’s Water Safety Event was a fantastic success as part of Drowning Prevention Week.

We were delighted to welcome so many families who got involved and learned vital water safety skills.

A special thankyou to the Rotherham Mayor, who joined us to present certificates to the children who took part, a brilliant way to recognise their efforts and encourage confidence around water 👏

Everyone who helped make the event possible shared their knowledge, experience and training, giving children a valuable understanding of how to stay safe near open water environments.

A big thank you to everyone who attended and supported the day. It was a brilliant community effort and a really positive event all round 🏞️

Many thanks to all the wonderful volunteers who joined us today to create some dead hedges near the meadowgate entrance. It was a wet morning, but we managed to build quite a lot. Water Safety Awareness Day for Children and Families 💦

Join us for a free family fun afternoon at Rother Valley Country Park from 1pm–4pm on Sunday 14th June.

Learning how to stay safe around open water is so important, and this event is a great opportunity for children and families to have fun while meeting local emergency services and water safety teams.

Watch South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue demonstrations, see Newfoundland rescue dogs in action, take part in Sams army’s mission 1life activities, have a go at paddle boarding and explore a fire engine, police van and ambulance.

No booking required, just turn up and enjoy!

Don't forget it's day 2 of the national hovercraft champions down at the north lake.
Practice starts at 9 45am. Racing starts at 12pm and will wrap up around 4pm.
If you've never seen it, it's definitely worth a look. They race on water and land and it's fantastic racing fun!

A date for you diary if you have kids that ride bikes.
Saturday 29th August. Between 11am and 4pm, we will be running our first ever KIDS BIKE JAM !
This will be part of the wonderful Rotherham UPLIFT festival.
It will be a free event, (you still need to pay for parking) and will include 3x different skills areas, with free coaching and skills tips. There will be all kinds of ramps and specialist skills equipment out for them to try. We will also be running timed training runs on the most popular mountain bike trail "Diggers downhill" in the afternoon.
The kids will get a proper printed receipt with their times on, just as in a proper race!
There's no need to register. Just turn up and join in.
The skills areas will be...
Young kids/beginners
Older kids/ intermediate
Advanced kids/ jumps and drops.
Free bike hire will be available if needed, but booking beforehand will be required. Drop us a message if you need it.
Activities will all take place around the cycle centre.
We are extremely excited about this event and have had lots of help from our friends at Rother Valley Riders mountain bike club and Sitwell cycling club.

We are very pleased to announce that our woodland classroom is finished and ready for some crafts!
We are running our 1st session on Thursday 18th June, where we will be teaching you how to create a wonderful wicker berry basket!
We have our fantastic willow master Trevor coming to lead the session between 10am till 3pm. The session will take place in the Woodland classroom area near watersports. We will be outside, in the woodland, so wear appropriate shoes and clothing. You can either bring your lunch, or pop into the waterfront cafe.
As this is our first ever session in the woodland classroom, we plan to film it and take photos to use to promote it. This activity is aimed at adults 18+.
This will be at a introductory price of £20 each and you get to keep the basket.

Rother Valley Country Park has now reopened.

We closed the park yesterday as a mark of respect after a young person lost their life on Monday. Our thoughts remain with their family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

We would like to remind you not to go swimming in open water even if the water looks calm. Shallow water often feels deceptively warmer at the edge of reservoirs, rivers, and lakes.

Never jump into open water where deeper water is often much colder even in hot weather. Cold water shock can kill in 60 seconds.

Please take care when you’re near open water.

If you unexpectedly find yourself in the water:
1. Take a minute, don’t try to swim straight away.
2. Relax and float to catch your breath.
3. Keep calm.
4. Ask someone to call for help and phone 999.
