Three Castles is a small, 12 pitch caravan and camping site exclusively for adults. We are members of the tranquil park group.

We are a modest,12 pitch caravan and camping site just for adults, surrounded by serene countryside between Abergavenny and Monmouth in South Wales, offering grass camping pitches, touring pitches and full-service pitches, all with electric hook-up. Open Season Easter weekend - 30th September.

🥰 What a wonderful 2026 season it’s been at Three Castles Caravan Park. As we close our gates for winter, we’ve been looking back on everything that made this year so special, and it’s all thanks to you. 🤗🌳

🏞️From April through September, our Walk of the Week series took guests across some of Monmouthshire’s most peaceful landscapes. You explored Garway Hill at sunrise, wandered the riverside paths of Skenfrith, discovered hidden woodland at the Punchbowl, and shared so many beautiful photos along the way.

🍽 Our Recommended Restaurant series became a real favourite too. From cosy countryside pubs to local gems tucked away in nearby villages. We loved seeing guests try new places, support local businesses, and enjoy those memorable meals after a day of exploring.

🐛 And of course, our Nature Notes brought the season to life. Hedgehogs, buzzards, butterflies, bats at dusk. The wildlife around the park never fails to make each stay feel special. Your sightings, stories, and snapshots made the series even richer.

Most of all, we’re grateful for the wonderful reviews you’ve shared this year. Your kind words about the peaceful atmosphere, spotless facilities, dog‑friendly field, and the warm welcome you receive here mean the world to us.

✨ Places to explore - Tintern Abbey ✨

If you’re staying at Three Castles Caravan Park, one place to explore nearby is the Tintern Abbey, a true icon of the Wye Valley.

Founded in 1131, Tintern Abbey was the first Cistercian monastery in Wales and today stands in majestic, roofless splendour on the banks of the River Wye. Its soaring Gothic arches, seven‑lancet west window, and peaceful riverside setting have inspired poets, painters, and visitors for centuries.

🌄 Final Walk of the Week for 2026 The Black Hill, Cat’s Back

As we approach the end of our 2026 season here at Three Castles Caravan Park, we’re sharing one last walking recommendation, and it’s a spectacular one.

For September’s spotlight walk, we’re heading to one of the most dramatic ridgelines in the region: The Black Hill, more fondly known as Cat’s Back.

This iconic ridge sits high above the Olchon Valley, offering a narrow, sweeping spine of hillside with breathtaking views across the Golden Valley, Hatterrall Ridge, and deep into the Black Mountains. It’s a walk that feels wild, airy, and wonderfully remote, the kind of place where you can stand on the ridge and feel like you’re on top of the world.

✨ What to Expect
🌄 A rocky knife‑edge ridge with stunning views on both sides one of the most dramatic ridgelines in Herefordshire

💨 Very exposed terrain it can be windy along the ridge, so be prepared for changing conditions

🥾 Moderate difficulty with a steep initial climb that gets the heart pumping, followed by a rewarding ridge walk

🪨 Rough, rocky sections, especially on the descent sturdy footwear is strongly recommended

🐑 Open upland grazing with sheep and ponies often seen along the ridge

🦅 Wildlife spotting opportunities, including red kites, buzzards, kestrels and ravens

🕒 Around 2–2.5 hours for the classic loop (approx. 4.9 miles / 7.8 miles depending on route)

Whether you choose the shorter loop or the longer ridge‑top route, Cat’s Back is one of those walks that stays with you, a perfect final adventure before the season draws to a close.

💧 Nature Notes from Three Castles: Discovering the Nature Around Us – Week Four

Wildlife in Rivers, Streams & Ponds
Our local rivers, streams and ponds are full of fascinating wildlife, much of it small, often overlooked, and incredibly important to the health of the countryside.

This week, we’re celebrating the creatures that thrive in and around our waterways, from tiny aquatic insects to colourful summer visitors skimming across the surface.

If you capture any photos of river life, pond creatures or peaceful water scenes while exploring the local area, share them in the comments. Guests often spot amazing things when they take a moment to look closely.

💧 The Familiar Water Visitors
These are the species most people notice first around local water:
Dragonflies
Damselflies
Pond skaters
Water boatmen
They’re active throughout summer and easy to spot near calm water.

🌿 The Ones You Might Not Think Of Straight Away
These creatures are common but often go unnoticed:
Freshwater snails
Caddisfly larvae building tiny cases from sand and plant material
Water beetles moving just below the surface
Frogs and toads tucked into damp vegetation
