Today, there are endless new sweets to choose from, but nothing quite beats the nostalgia of traditional favourites. From boiled sweets, bon bons and sherbets to the colourful pick-and-mix selections that became a childhood highlight for many families throughout the 20th century, some treats never go out of fashion.

That's exactly why visitors love a trip to the world-famous The Oldest Sweet Shop in the World in Pateley Bridge. Established in 1827 and recognised by Guinness World Records, it's a place where generations of sweet lovers can step back in time and rediscover old favourites.
Many families staying at Moorside Farm Holiday Cottages make the short journey to Pateley Bridge as part of their Yorkshire Dales adventure. Just around 15 minutes away, it's the perfect excuse for a day out, with children delighted by the rows of sweet jars and parents and grandparents often finding themselves reminiscing over sweets they haven't seen for decades.

Whether you're introducing little ones to traditional sweets for the first time or reliving your own childhood memories, a visit to this iconic sweet shop is always a treat worth making.

๐ŸŽฌ 26th April 2023 in Grassington

Moorside farm Holiday Cottage has been following the filming of All Creatures Great and Small since Oct 2019

We are still watching the filming now in 2026!
Here we have James ( Nicholas Ralph) leaving the outside of Skeldale House and stopping near the local folk museum ( recently dressed as Holbeech - camera suppliers) eating a pie.

The next clip is taken from the TV series aired on channel 5. That scene is much quicker than the live filming, as you'll all know it's been edited.

Anyone who watches the filming in Grassington knows that a scene can be redone up to 9 times ( not that I've counted). It does seem longer!

Please tag us if you repost, please do not take our reel and make it your own.

When was the last time you gave yourself a little treat?

Yesterday, Jason and I escaped the never-ending list of jobs and chores for a few hours and headed to Harrogate, the beautiful spa town just 20 miles from our cottages.
No grand plans. No packed itinerary. Just some quality time together and some delicious, wholesome food at Bakeri Baltzersen.

As with most days out for us, the conversation drifted between family life and work life. Running a family business means the two are often intertwined, but having the space to talk without distractions felt like a treat in itself.

It's easy to think a break has to be a week away somewhere exotic. Sometimes it's simply taking a few hours to slow down, share a meal, wander somewhere different and reconnect with the people who matter most.
Yesterday reminded us that we all need a little timeout now and then. Not because we're struggling, but because life feels better when we make room for moments that refill our cup.

If you've been meaning to press pause for a few days, June can be a wonderful time to visit the Yorkshire Dales. The countryside is looking its best, the walking trails are quieter than peak summer, and a short break can do wonders for the mind.

After all, we all deserve a treat now and again โ€” even if it's a small one.

Have you treated yourself to a little timeout recently?

๐Ÿ‘ The highlight of their holiday wasn't a theme park, attraction, or expensive day out...

A family staying with us recently surprised me.
Every day, without fail, the children, parents and grandparents would walk up into our field to watch the sheep being fed. They stood together chatting, watching and taking it all in.

To us, it's an everyday part of life!

For them, it was something completely different.
It was a chance for the children to see where food comes from, hear the sounds of the countryside and experience a slower pace of life. The grandparents enjoyed sharing stories, while the children eagerly waited for the sheep to come running across the field.

It reminded me that some of the most memorable holiday moments aren't always the ones you plan.
Sometimes they're the simple things.
Fresh air. Open space. Curious children. Three generations making memories together.

Less than five minutes from the cottage, guests can experience a little glimpse of real Yorkshire Dales farm life and discover the kind of moments that stay with you long after you've returned home.

If you're looking for a family escape where children can explore, grandparents can relax and everyone can reconnect with nature, send us a message or visit our website to check availability.

Wrong answers encouraged ๐Ÿ‘‡

Jason ( co host of Moorside Farm) finally gets the chance to speak to an extra from All Creatures Great and Smallโ€ฆ and out of all the possible questions he could askโ€ฆ

โ€œWhatโ€™s in your basket?โ€ ๐Ÿคฃ

To be fair, maybe he was just playing it safe and avoiding any filming spoilers for the next series.
Now weโ€™re all curious thoughโ€ฆ

โ”What do we think was inside the jars?
Love heart โค๏ธ for all answers
