June is one of the best times to visit the Yorkshire Dales 🌳 The countryside is at its greenest, the days are long, and the summer crowds haven’t fully peaked yet. It’s a brilliant month for walking, relaxing, and exploring across the Dales.
Wildflower Meadows & Green Landscapes 🌼
June is when the Dales really comes alive. The famous hay meadows around places like Muker Meadows and Malham Cove are filled with wildflowers including buttercups, orchids and cowslips. Dry stone walls, rolling hills and limestone scenery look especially vibrant this time of year.
Perfect Walking Weather 🌄
June usually brings mild temperatures and longer daylight hours, making it ideal for hikes without the colder weather of spring or autumn. Popular walks include Malham Cove, Aysgarth Falls, Ingleton Waterfalls Trail, Ribblehead Viaduct, and The Three Peaks routes around Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent
Longer Evenings 🌙
Sunset in June is after 9pm, which gives you loads of time to explore during the day and still enjoy an evening meal or drink outside at The Gamekeeper's Inn afterwards.
Waterfalls Are Still Flowing Well 🌊
Unlike late summer, June often still has strong waterfall flow from spring rainfall. Spots like Hardraw Force and Janet's Foss look especially impressive.
Lambs, Wildlife & Nature 🐑
You’ll still see plenty of lambs in the fields, plus curlews, red squirrels, rabbits and birds of prey across the national park. June is excellent for photography and wildlife spotting.
Fewer Crowds Than Peak Summer ☀️
You get many of the benefits of summer weather without the full school holiday crowds of July and August. Popular attractions and walking routes are generally quieter midweek.
