C O W & C A L F R O C K S 💚

The famous Cow & Calf Rocks in Ilkley are a great place to explore with gorgeous views out over the lower Wharfe Valley.

With toddlers it a good one to do to show them what it’s like on top of the rocks then down below. A great lesson in sense of scale!

However, do not let go of their hand!!

We do a little explore going to look between the rocks before climbing up on to the top then looping back round. This is around 0.6 miles but you can extend this and go off exploring down all the little paths or up onto the moors.

A handy bench for snacks and there’s also the little cafe. Free parking in the car park too.

D E V O N S H I R E S P A 🛁

If you are looking for a spa day but without the cost then here it is!

Twilight Spa at Devonshire Arms Hotel & Spa in Bolton Abbey only £65pp which INCLUDES a 2 course meal at the Brasserie!

3 hours in the spa, chilling and making use of the hydrotherapy pool plus sauna and steam room.

This area has been updated adding in the jets, seating and spouts into the pool plus additional seating area around which was required.

The meal afterwards in the brasserie was lovely too. There was a varied choice (some you had to pay a supplement to upgrade but we didn’t need to) and you can have a starter or a pud.

They also do an afternoon tea variation and one with adding on the mud rasul!

Who needs a spa day?! 🙋‍♀️

B A T S & B O G G A R T S 🦇

National Trust Yorkshire Dales put on a FREE event this half term up at Malham Tarn… Bats and Boggarts autumn trail.

We headed up this weekend for a wander as we haven’t been for a long while. So quiet and peaceful and a little bit eerie in the fog. The sun was out in patches but the fog was clinging to the tarn so we couldn’t see it.

A lovely little activity walk with lots of animal facts thrown in.

Definitely a walk we need to do again soon in the sunshine ☀️

P U M P K I N T R A I L 🎃

It wouldn’t be October half term without a trip to Bolton Abbey Estate for the annual Pumpkin Trail.

Another year, another tricky quiz sheet to complete but the same beautiful autumnal walk.

R Y L S T O N E C R O S S 💚

A challenging walk for little ones due to the climb but worth it for the views on the top.

A 3 mile route, starting in Rylstone (layby on the approach to the village). It follows the track all the way up on to the tops.

It can be windy up there so keep hold of little ones on the rocks.

I N D O O R F U N 🤍

With the weather a little bit miserable you may need some ideas for fun indoor things to do over the coming months!

Here’s a variety of different indoor fun places to visit all within an hour of Skipton;

🤍 World of their Own - enter the wild Wild West! For 2 hours let your little ones run wild in their new and improved Cowboy themed role play centre in Harrogate. With secret tunnels, water pistol fights, fancy dress, horsey rides they are going to be worn out. There’s a cafe there too with a meal included in entry.

🤍 Trampoling is always a lot of fun. A high energy way to again tire them out! We enjoyed JUMP INC UK Urban Playgroundsin Leeds as it had both trampolining and inflatable areas plus a huge cafe.

🤍 Stump Cross Caverns is always our go to local attraction. Head underground and walk through the showcaves, go on a UV tour and enjoy a fossil dig with Cave Woman! A very educational and fun day out. The cafe there is delicious too. Check out all the other events on there too.

🤍 Grasshoppers at Tingley Garden Centre plus Tong and now Otley too! A great soft play for all ages. It’s really big with loads of different areas to keep little ones entertained.

🤍 The Little Lancashire Village in Burnley and others too are role play villages suitable for ages up to 7. With mini post office, police station, supermarket, construction site, cafe and more they will want to be there all day. Cafe there too where you can sit and enjoy a coffee whilst watching the littlies.

🤍 Clip 'N Climb Ilkley Ltd is another fab indoor experience. They offer toddler sessions (actually up to age 6 so perfect for beginners) plus other sessions for more confident climbers. They also have events and themed climbs on including a disco climb!

S C A L E B E R F O S S 💙

Driving over the moors from Settle to Malham this super short walk down to Scaleber Foss waterfall is a must.

The path down is steep in places and after rain can be slippy so take care. But it’s definitely worth going down steady to get a great view.

C O L D S T O N E C U T 💚

This super short walk is fab for little ones.

Only 600m from the free car park up you will find this mega art installation overlooking the only working quarry in Nidderdale.

With a long entrance and 2 spirals leading up to view points you can see for miles across to Harrogate, the Dales, Ilkley and of course the beautiful Nidderdale countryside.

Our fix of fresh air for sure.

C L I F F E C A S T L E M U S E U M 🤍

What an unexpected find in the middle of Cliffe Castle! Total hidden gem!

Cliffe Castle museum is beautiful! This stained glass wonder awaits you when you first enter the museum and from then on the museum really surprised me.

Deceptively big, the exhibits keep on coming with a huge variety from animals including a live bee hive, to photography exhibition to the geography of the area.

The boys found the geology section interesting with all the different rocks and fossils and then looking at how the earth had evolved. Lots of challenging questions!!

A great little place to lose yourself for an hour.

S P O O K Y S P O T 👻

Did you know that Bolton Abbey Priory is haunted?

The Priory is one of very few Augustinian monasteries in the country and of those it is the best preserved. One of the monks that died during the dissolution is said to haunt the ruins. Named the Black Cannon after his dark cloak and hat, his footsteps can still be heard stomping around the Abbey.

We headed down to see if we could find him but all we spotted was this friendly ghost 👻 🤣

The boys loved racing round the ruins, climbing on the stones and playing peekaboo.
