Herd Groyne Lighthouse - small, red, and impossible to miss.
Built in 1882, it has guided vessels into the Tyne for well over a century, standing on its little groyne at South Shields while the river does what the river has always done - bring people, trade and stories in from the sea.
Did you know? It is only around 13 metres tall, but its colour and position make it one of the most recognisable harbour lights on the North East coast.
Northern Perspectives captures real places across the region, including the coastal landmarks that quietly keep watch.
