Bluetongue Update❗️

⚠️ Bluetongue is continuing to spread across the country, with 1015 cases now confirmed and over 2200 currently under investigation. The majority of cases have been seen along the West of England and Wales in the most livestock dense areas, including the first confirmed cases within our practice area. We also have a growing number of local cases still under investigation as lab turnaround times for results have recently reached 3-4 weeks.

📞 Not all cases are obvious and many have not shown all of the typical signs, recently we have attended multiple which have been mistaken for other issues such as pinkeye or high worm burdens. If you have any suspicion or are concerned about symptoms in your stock, please don’t hesitate to get in touch so we can assess the situation and ensure animals are receiving the most appropriate treatment for the highest chances of recovery.

💉 It is still not too late to vaccinate! The end of the midge season is not expected until December. We are still receiving a high volume of vaccine orders and are lucky enough to currently have enough stock to fulfil orders straight away. Additionally, we are still running smallholder vaccine days as needed for those with smaller stock numbers. If you are interested in vaccination or have any queries, get in touch and we will be happy to discuss your needs further!
