Once upon a time… there was a tired old Cotswolds inn in the heart of Stow.
The 17th-century character was still there, hiding beneath decades of changes.

It was worth saving.
The beams, Cotswold stone, wonky walls, and rooms that refused to be quite the same shape twice.
It just needed a little imagination.
So previous owner Jim started again.
The furniture & fittings all out.
And then the old Old Stocks was searched for again.
Original beams were sandblasted and restored, even to traditional horsehair and lime plaster brought old techniques back to life.
The building’s history no longer hidden.
Beautiful finished rooms, but not just another Cotswolds hotel.
No dark, predictable interiors.
Instead, 17th-century character meets fresh colours, modern fabrics, quirky finds and plenty of personality.
And every room speaks for itself.
No two are quite the same at the stocks.
Because sometimes the best things happen when you stop trying to make everything fit the same mould.
And then came the people.
And our story began, because a hotel isn’t really a hotel without the people who bring it to life.
And now, the next chapter.
In April 2025, Mark and Zac, already part of the Stow family through their ownership of The Stag next door, took over The Old Stocks.
A new chapter, but still the same belief, make the stocks somewhere you want to come back to.
And the story doesn’t end here…
We’re still cooking, still changing and still finding new ways to make The Old Stocks feel like nowhere else.
