People sometimes assume Arran is best for younger children.

We're not so sure.

Sea swims, pier jumps, tennis matches, pump tracks, mountain bike trails, paddleboards, kayaking, mini golf and a full golf course for every day of the week.

Then back to the cottage for important family board meetings where lessons may include cheating, stealing and the harsh reality that you can't always afford Mayfair. Oh and kids over 4 are welcome in our sauna too!

One of the things we love as our kids grow is that holidays are becoming a bit more adventurous again. You can head out for the day, try new things, stay out longer and make the most of everything the island has to offer.

🚙What are your core summer holiday memories?

Mine are messing about in boats in Brodick Bay, going to Wooleys for cakes, and playing on the little cars outside Bilsland's that took 10p a go😂

We used to stay in our old family cottage in Brodick. There was no heating, no hot water, and my dad would spend all night 'perfecting' the coal fire🔥

My gran always made us a "goodie bag" for the journey. Packed with cakes and sweets, despite the fact the drive to the ferry only took 45 minutes and we'd almost certainly end up getting chips on the boat anyway.

Anyone else remember CalMac chips in those polystyrene cups?🍟

These are exactly the sort of family holidays we wanted our own children to have. And one of the reasons we love seeing families making memories at Hamilton Cottages.

A lot has changed since the 1980s.

The cars outside Bilsland's are gone. The polystyrene cups are gone too.

But a surprising amount remains the same.

Messing about in Brodick Bay ✅

Wooleys cakes✅

Sandy feet, salty hair and children who don't want to come indoors. ✅

Maybe that's why Arran still feels so special.

❓Is this controversial?

We've always provided salt and pepper 🧂 but decided to start leaving other things that have been left behind such as herbs and spices, condiments, oils, honey, oats etc. Some items are open. This is where the controversy lies.. apparently this is a massive no-no in some hosting circles.

People reckon it's unhygienic.

When we go on holiday though, we love finding things like this. It means we're not buying a new bottle of olive oil or ketchup for a few nights away. And it makes the place feel homely and lived-in and like a wee bonus 🤣

We're not talking half used milk or things that go out of date quickly but mostly what I'd call 'cupboard items'

About 2k down the road from Hamilton cottages, just before you reach the junction 🚗at the end of The String where you turn towards ➡️ Blackwaterfoot you'll spot👀 the cows 🐄(and maybe the farmers!) that give us our amazing Arran milk 🥛and of course, ice cream 🍦🍨!!!

❓What's your fave flavor? Mine is chocolate 🍫 which is weird as I don't like any other brand of chocolate ice cream 🤣 It goes exceptionally well with an espresso ☕or Americano I've found.. from my extensive research 😜
