The Tudor Barn, Milden

25/10/2026

Autumn in a matchbox 🍂🤎

It’s wild and windy here at Milden in these colourful months and we still have plenty of availability in both The Old Brooder and Tudor Barn, throughout November & December. Christmas and NYE are booked, but there are still some Twixmas short breaks available too!

Building dens and hedgehog hibernation homes, ‘putting’ woodland in a matchbox and creating autumn art attacks… we have family activity packs crammed with ideas that you can do outdoors whilst exploring our farm trails. In the evenings, cosy up by a roaring woodburner and play some board games. 👣🪾🔥🧩

It’s National Farmers’ Day 👨🏻‍🌾

At 71, Christopher is looking good on his more than full-time farming work and over the average farmer age of 59 🤯 We’re super lucky to have the lovely son-in-law Jamie, apprenticed to Christopher, as one of the 2% of UK farmers who are under 35. And let’s not forget our superstar Warren who works on the farm too. 💪

Today we’re celebrating our gorgeous, dedicated farmers, and their contribution to growing food – and in everything else they do on our diversified farm. 🌾

There’s not many hours left in the day to sleep! 💤

Some seriously epic guest pics from a Tudor night in the barn ⚔️🏰🕯️👑📜🪶🏹🎻

When you’ve got a magnificent 16th century barn, a chest full of Tudor costumes and 24 of your favourite people under one roof… there’s only one thing to do.

Dress up, feast down banquet tables, dance and be merry!! 🍗🍷

Borrow our warm Tudor costumes, lay the banquet tables with wooden platters, pewter spoons and glazed pottery, then settle in for a Tudor feast - haunches of venison, pheasant pie, gooseberry cake… washed down with some mead. After a grand supper, try our Tudor quiz and challenge eachother to a ye olde dance-off or get a tutor in to teach you!

Quite the way to celebrate a hen, birthday or gathering we think!

We’re rather in love with these dried alliums in their brass jugs in The Tudor Barn 💜

Kindly given to us by the lovely Louise back in June for Daisy’s wedding, they’ve survived and dried beautifully and look so lovely against the beams. A little bit of summer that we can enjoy for much longer!

These boots (and The Old Brooder) are made for walking … 🥾

Planning next year’s programme for your local walking group? Come and make The Old Brooder your base camp! We offer a 5% discount on fees for walking clubs, plus plenty of walking maps and suggestions of circular walking routes (long and short). 🗺️

Then, at the end of a long day, there’s room for 22 of you to feast together in the kitchen or barbecue on a sunny terrace and put your feet up in the comfy sitting room in preparation for the next day’s yomp! 👣

On our doorstep we’ve got river valleys, woodland, glorious Wool Town villages and a few hills! 💚

A great haul of damsons and Victoria plums, despite the dry weather! 😍

One of the unexpected perks of drought and a shockingly early harvest? The lads have finally had time to tackle the jobs Christopher has been putting off for 40+ years… 🫪

High up on the list: clearing out the wheat barn. 📋

Years of hand-me-down fridges that ‘might’ work, washing machines that ‘just need a little something’ and bits of wood that ‘may’ come in useful. There’s been frustration, laughter, head-scratching, some rogue items uncovered and a LOT of dust 🧼🧹

It’s pretty satisfying to finally see the floor again!!
