Bring the family together this New Year’s Eve at The Hyde.

There’s something special about having everyone under one roof, sharing good food, long conversations and those precious moments that are so often missed in the busyness of everyday life.

We welcome families back to Netherwood year after year to do just that, and this year we have some rare availability at The Hyde for NYE.

Our orchards have been bursting with apples this year. We sent a load off for pressing and we now have our own delicious home grown orchard apple juice!
We leave bottles for guests to enjoy as part of the welcome hampers in our holiday homes, The Hyde and The Freeth.

We’ve been enjoying the meditative activity of sowing sweet pea seeds this week. 19 varieties from - just can’t help ourselves!

They were one of our favourite garden features of summer this year, always going down a treat on the plant stand at our NGS Open Gardens. We wouldn’t be without them.

We soak the seeds overnight to help germination, before sowing them individually into deep root trainers, as they don’t like being disturbed.

Use a good-quality, peat-free seed compost with some vermiculite to aid water retention and promote root growth. Sow each seed around 2–3cm deep, water gently and place somewhere bright and cool.

Cover with a lid to stop hungry mice eating the seeds before they germinate!

There’s something rather magical about childhood holidays at Netherwood.

So many of our families return year after year, and we love knowing that this is a place where happy memories are made.

We’ve thought of all the little things to make travelling with children easier, from cots, high chairs and baby monitors to pool toys, ride-on tractors and footballs.

And best of all? The great outdoors, with endless space for little adventures and memories to last a lifetime.

A simple way to get plants for free!

We’ve been dividing some of our perennials today, and here’s one geranium becoming several new plants. It takes just a couple of minutes, doesn’t harm the plant and is such an easy, free way to add more plants to the garden.

Now is a great time of year to get dividing!

Autumn evenings at The Freeth are heaven… A glass of w**e by a cosy fire, watching the leaves falling in the garden and total peace and tranquility.
