🛫 The Wales Airshow closed out a triumphant weekend over Swansea Bay today, with organisers hailing the event's brand new Saturday night addition.
🎉 Rob Stewart, Leader of Swansea Council, praised the turnout after thr displays, saying the bay had been "packed" with well over 100,000 people enjoying "Wales' biggest free event." He singled out the new Afterburn show for special praise, calling it "just spectacular," with planes, pyrotechnics and over 200 drones lighting up the bay.
✨ Councillor Andrew Williams added that the show "once again proved why it is one of Swansea's flagship events," saying the aerial displays, family attractions and atmosphere had created "a memorable experience for residents and visitors alike."
🚁 Afterburn was new for 2026 on the Saturday evening, featuring the Otto Helicopter, the Firebirds pair with LED lighting and wing-mounted fireworks, and the glow of a Typhoon's afterburners over the water, before the finale's choreographed 200-drone display, and more fireworks.
🇬🇧 The daytime programme brought back familiar favourites like the RAF Tutor alongside displays never seen over Swansea Bay before, including the Strikemaster Pair, plus historic aircraft such as the Spitfire, Hurricane and Dakota.
☀️ Rob Stewart thanked the council's events team, pilots, air support staff, the local drone company, and all exhibitors and sponsors for making the weekend happen.
