The last Friday of June is always dedicated to ‘National Cream Tea Day’, and this year, with the glorious weather, where better to celebrate with cream cakes, jams and scones than with a lovely cream tea at Delgatie Castle. Our local beautiful cream tea hot spot, steeped in heritage. The Nation has, in fact, enjoyed cream teas since 1662….enjoy a walk around the woods, fishing at the lake, tour the historic Castle or just meet the lovely custodians there and go straight for the cream! Only minutes from our caravan & campsite…Enjoy!

First Monday after the Summer Solstice, and grass cutting day.
Sunny all day with just a brief shower this last half hour- yes we do get Summer rain! A lot less than the West Coast, Solway & Ayrshire Coasts, because of our Easterly microclimate, but there’s always a dusty spot to shelter though, says Mrs Buffy & her two Brahma friends!

Sunday 21st June 9.24am.
As we approach the Summer Solstice, the daylight gets longer and longer, the darkness shorter and shorter, and in this part of the World just about now, the Sun barely dips below the horizon momentarily before appearing again… it’s a magical time.
The Planet is tipped to the maximum, so much so that here, right now, we look North for our sunsets!
FYI. At this latitude (57.55 N ), we spin at 558 mph, and as the Planet travels through space as we orbit the Sun at 66,600 mph… and the Solar system, in the Orion arm of the Galaxy we’re in, travels through space at 514,000 mph, yet takes the arm 230 million years to travel one full revolution around the centre of the Galaxy…. Space is vast. In fact it’s all just brilliant, including our tiny tiny part of it at Planet Balthangie…!

Most of our visitors, regulars and long time visiting friends get it, but not everyone does!
We receive many positive reviews for which we are always grateful, but occasionally the comment ‘facilities need updating’ pops up…. 🙄
To put you in the picture, we aim to create a 1950’s/1960’s vibe at Planet Balthangie.
Besides a pleasant view from your pitch (yes not a hedge or a main road, just rolling fields, Red Hill, and big skies), our facilities are very much 50’s/60’s based.
No… not a bucket with holes in for a shower, but big ‘old fashioned’ porcelain sinks, proper taps with spindles, and toilet roll holder like you had at school- not the modern sealed units you have to prise a reluctant sheet from, as the roll you can see through the plastic refuses to give up its prize…
Toilets with a proper flush handle, not a tiny button that refuses to give you more than a teaspoon of water, which you have to press 27 times to remove the evidence.
However, the showers are a concession to modern comforts, set in a wet room fitted with power showers, or as in the family room a modern Triton shower. Both with no time limits, or coin operations and a chair to sit on.
The kitchen, with its 50’s feel, has a few modern concessions, with two microwaves, 2 kettles and a toaster.
There’s no limiting push button showers to bypass, no blowers to ruffle the hairs on the back of your hand rather than drying them- we prefer decent water absorbing paper towels- remember those?
So, if you think we’re a little dated, great! That’s exactly what we’re aiming for!
Oh, and you might like to visit and feel the vibe of our games room, set out in our wooden World War One pavilion- over 100 years old, and our lifelong restoration project, that over recent years storm Dave, Eric and Ernie, and the rest have done their best to demolish!
If you’ve not stayed with us before, check out our reviews on Pitch Up, Google, CampsitesUK, and all the other review sites online and we’ll hopefully see you soon!

We don’t use weedkiller here… not least because of the cancer causing glyphosates, but more we like to see the wild flowers taking over in various quirky spots .
Last year we had just one Welsh poppy by the bottle bins, this year we have a whole family of them! Very pretty!
