East Balthangie Caravan & Camping Park Planet Balthangie is centrally & ideally situated for exploring Grampian & the glorious NE coastline.

A beautiful caravan park in the North East of Scotland, we pride ourselves on offering a quiet country retreat with campers' kitchen and toilet and power shower wet room facilities. We also have a 100-year-old Pavilion, where you can sit a while, watch TV, choose & read a book, or play indoor games such as pool, table tennis, and table football. We are on the North Sea cycle route and welcome cyclists passing through, or who wish to stay a while and explore the myriad of country lanes and dedicated cycle paths in the area. We are also a very dog-friendly place with a purpose-built, secure dog exercise area to allow your canine companions to run free! Superbly situated for exploring Banff and the whole of Aberdeenshire. There are ample castles, distilleries, museums and country houses and ample country woodland walks in the area. Coastal walks are half an hour away in the car- either the rugged rocky Northern coastline, or the 52 miles of sand dunes to the East. The local pub is five minutes away in New Deer, where meals are served Tuesday to Sunday. In New Deer, and nearby Cuminestown, you will also find small shops, a garage and a post office. Nearby county town Turriff is a thriving metropolis of shops and eateries and is fifteen minutes away by car, with further entertainments found in Aberdeen, the granite, City forty five minutes drive south.

Here are the dangers of parking up on a council provided or ‘wild’ stop over point with no warden facilities and no fire fighting equipment.
Imagine a row of camper vans parked less than the legal distance apart of 6 metres, and one bursts into flames as the others sleep. Hopefully no one was injured here, and only vehicles suffered damage…but it is something camper van and motorhome owners should think very carefully about, before picking a spot- make sure you are well away from others and you have fire extinguishers on board, with smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in operation.

Worrying moment tonight… our 5 swans that fly over in the morning and back home at night for several years now, were down to 4 this evening… hope number 5 is ok!
They’re Whooper swans and make a great sight - always good to see them back in the area. They roost over on Loch of Strathbeg on a night, flying over here to feed during the day.
Currently on the amber list for concern for migratory birds, we want to see their numbers grow not decline. The growing number of power cables & junk science net zero turbines are bad news for birds sadly, as is avian flu…

Our dark skies are perfect for viewing meteors & other celestial events.
For the next few nights (peaking tomorrow), Earth is passing through the remnants of comet 21P/Giacobini-Zinner 1984e, which produces some spectacular meteors.

The Draconids.

This shower is best viewed later in the evening, into the early hours, and is at its best between October 6th and October 10th. You will see at least 10 meteors an hour, but if the dragon awakes, we sometimes see hundreds crashing into the Earth's atmosphere an hour! Tonight maybe? Hope so!
