Biggar Biggar is located in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. In July there's the annual Cattle Show--and don't forget to take the weans to the boating pond afterwards!

Biggar is a really nice wee town surrounded by beautiful countryside, it has lots of nice shops for browsing through and with several bars/hotels/restaurants and cafes, there's plenty of choice for food and drink. There are museums to check out too, including the Moat Park Heritage Centre, Gladstone Court Museum and the old Gas Works (which is really cool if you've no idea how gas was "made"). In June there's Gala Week which starts with the Riding of the Marches followed a week later by the Gala Day itself and the crowning of the Fleming Queen. And don't miss the annual Hogmanay Bonfire which blazes in front of the Corn Exchange. Other events during the year include the annual Vintage Car Rally. One downside is that the busy A702 connecting Edinburgh with the M74 at Abington runs through the middle of the town and there's a fairly steady stream of heavy lorries going through which is both hazardous and noisy.

In the summer of 1940, after N**i Germany took control of France, around 3,500 Polish soldiers were evacuated to Biggar--some with no more than rags around their feet. They were housed in the primary school to start with then moved out to camps, one of which was at Wolfclyde.
The primary school was used as the headquarters of the Polish 1st R***e Brigade under General Sikorski, who was Prime Minister of the Polish Government in Exile, and a number of Polish officers were billeted in the town.

Any insights to the photos would be welcome.
