One of Warkworth’s simple pleasures 🏰🌿

The Mill Walk is one of Warkworth’s loveliest strolls, following the River Coquet from The Stanners to the fascinating Hermitage, with wonderful views of Warkworth Castle along the way. This is a beautiful circular stroll with wonderful views and is the perfect way to start the day or unwind after a day exploring everything Northumberland has to offer.

Best of all, it’s less than five minutes from all of our cottages, so you’re never far from a peaceful wander and some of the best views in the village.

This time, St Lawrence’s Church - tucked just behind the main street in the heart of the village.

Parts of the church date back to the 12th century, with centuries of additions and changes shaping what you see today. It has long been at the centre of village life, quietly overlooking Warkworth as it has grown and changed around it.

In the distance, you might spot Coquet Island known for its puffin colonies. While the island itself is protected, boat trips from Amble Harbour offer the chance to see the wildlife up close.

Warkworth Stories ✨

During the Second World War, the long, open stretch of the Northumberland coastline was considered a potential landing point for invasion.

As a result, defences were quickly put in place along the coast. These concrete blocks were designed to stop tanks and vehicles from moving inland, forming part of a wider network of coastal protection.

You’ll still find them scattered along the beach between Warkworth and Alnmouth today - a quiet reminder of the area’s past.
