Towens provide waste management and construction services to trade and home owners - Southwest area.

We handle well over half a million tonnes of waste and recycled aggregate per year. Here at Towens we are proud of our history and record in waste management and construction services, our association with Weston Super Mare, its business council and residents. Mainarea Ltd trading as Towens of Weston began on 14th July1992 from a small yard on the Weston Europark. We did pretty much anything in the early days, except skips as Andy Towens was not permitted to compete with his previous employer under the terms of his severance. At this time Woodspring District were very supportive finding various civil engineering works for us to carry out. In 1994 Towens merged with C-T plant a local plant hire company and the operation was moved to a small depot on Rectors way. In 1997 we purchased two plots of land in Warne Road, moved in and began the skip side of the business. Soon after the millennium we were able to purchase some of the old Hutton Moor allotment land which backed onto our plot and it is this site that we occupy today. In 2002 following 8 years of steady growth Mainarea Ltd changed to the two operating companies Towens of Weston Ltd and Towens Waste Management Ltd that you see today. We handle well over half a million tonnes of waste and recycled aggregate per year and have developed the site into a fully functioning trade waste processing and recycling facility. In 2012 we were successful in purchasing the old council transport depot opposite our main site and expanded our operation further. 2015 saw the completion of our own vehicle maintenance workshop on the site of one of the original 2 plots purchased in 1997 and the formation of Towens Fleet Services Ltd.

Ever wondered what actually happens to your skip once it leaves site?

It doesn't just get tipped and forgotten. Every load gets sorted, much of it by hand, to separate materials for recycling. Timber, metal, plasterboard and rubble all get split out so as much as possible avoids landfill.

It's one of the reasons we're able to recycle, reuse or recover 92% of what comes through our gates.

Guess where our skip is this month📍 Spooky edition 🎃

We're kicking off a new series, taking our skips to different spots across Somerset and asking you to guess where. Since it's October, round one's a spooky edition, here are your clues:

DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME ❌

Last weekend, instead of our skips being filled with waste, we had motorbikes and mountain bikes flying over some of them 🏍️

We supplied a 6yd and an 8yd skip as the centrepiece obstacles for the Extreme Mountain Bike Show at the Weston Beach Race Fanzone.

Engines vs pedals, with riders jumping on, across and off our skips, show after show, all weekend.

Great to back a local event and see our skips doing something a bit different.

Thanks to Danny Butler and the team at Extreme Mountain Bike Show for putting on a brilliant show, and to the Weston Beach Race for a brilliant weekend.

We have welcomed two new additions to the Towens family... Meet Rolo and Skip

Meet our brand new RoRo lorry, now out on the road carrying RoRo bins from 20 to 40 yards, each one capable of handling up to approximately 15 tonnes!

And our latest addition... a new skip lorry. Our skips have been in high demand this year, so we've strengthened the fleet with an 18-tonne skip wagon fitted with brand-new lifting gear, capable of handling everything from 2 to 16 yard skips!

Whether it's a small job or a big one, this lorry's got it covered.

Ever wondered what actually happens to a skip full of rubble once it leaves your site?

It gets crushed, screened, and sorted, oils and contaminants stripped out, then graded down to size. What comes out the other end is recycled aggregate, topsoil, and road plannings ready to go straight back into use.

Less than 10% of everything we process ends up as landfill. The rest gets a second life.
