🤔✍️ Did you miss our May blog post? The land surrounding our hotel holds centuries of stories, from the royal footsteps of the Tudor era to the evolving landscapes of the Surrey countryside.
To truly understand the heritage of this area — and the distinction between the grand Oatlands Palace and the historic hunting lodges that once dotted the horizon — one must look through the eyes of someone who has walked every inch of its paths.
Imagine escaping the hustle of London to the tranquil banks of the River Wey — just like the Tudors did. Originally the site of a Tudor Palace commissioned by Henry VIII in 1538, the Oatlands Estate has welcomed Kings and Queens, Emperors and Earls, Dukes and Duchesses across the centuries.
Though the Palace was ultimately lost to fire, Oatlands endured — and the hotel you see today was built at the turn of the 18th century. It remains a place where heritage and hospitality meet in timeless elegance.
A stroll along Broadwater Lake is a walk through a living painting. Originally designed in the 18th century, this stunning landscape remains a haven for local wildlife and peaceful walks today 🦆🌿 Have you explored the trail yet?
Next time you arrive at the hotel, take a moment to look up. Our iconic Cedar of Lebanon tree has stood witness to the English Civil War, the destruction of a royal palace, and nearly 400 years of changing history.
🏰 Continuous history, right under your feet.
From Regency-era political scandals to recently welcoming Premier League stars and global sporting icons, we’ve been hosting big household names since 1856. Who will you spot on your next visit?
