📚 A little Regency reading with a very familiar view…

Friend of The Gresham, local author Rachel Knowles, has recently released her latest historical romance, A Misguided Devotion.

Although this one isn’t part of Rachel’s Women of Weymouth series, it stays very close to home. The story is set on Portland, with several key scenes taking place here in Weymouth.

One of those locations is the fictional home of the Duke and Duchess of Wessex, a house on Weymouth’s Esplanade overlooking the bay.

Which means that, while staying in one of our sea view rooms, you could be enjoying a remarkably similar view to the one enjoyed by Rachel’s hero, William. 💙

There’s something rather lovely about reading a story set in Regency Dorset while looking out across the very same coastline.

A splash of colour beneath Weymouth 🐙🦈

The underpass near Radipole Lake has had a fabulous underwater makeover, thanks to some very talented local artists.

Sharks, rays, seahorses, turtles and plenty of tentacles now brighten it right up .

We think it looks brilliant and it’s definitely worth a look next time you’re wandering around Radipole Lake.

Meet a friend of The Gresham 📚

Local author Rachel Knowles has a real passion for Regency history, something that feels very much at home here at The Gresham, with our building dating back to 1827.

Rachel kindly helped us put together our Regency Weymouth history leaflets, sharing some of the fascinating stories of Weymouth in the time of George III, from sea bathing to everyday life more than 200 years ago.

She is also the author of a wonderful collection of Regency-set historical romance novels, bringing the people, places and atmosphere of the period to life through fiction.

We’re delighted to have a selection of Rachel’s books here at The Gresham too, ready for guests to pick up, settle into a comfy chair and enjoy during their stay. 📖

Over the next few posts, we’ll be sharing a little more about Rachel’s books, including some with a particularly lovely Weymouth connection.

A little change of scenery over at Premier Portland Marina. ⚓️

Just a short trip from Weymouth, and a lovely spot for a quiet wander by the water, watching the boats and taking things at a slightly slower pace.
