🌊 Whitby to Robin Hood’s Bay: one of the Yorkshire Coast’s most spectacular walks. Full route and map. 👇

The walk from Whitby to Robin Hood’s Bay is one of the most beautiful routes on the Yorkshire Coast. It follows the well-known Cleveland Way, taking you along dramatic clifftops, rugged paths, and sweeping sea views.

The walk starts in Whitby with a climb up the 199 steps. You’ll pass the famous Whitby Abbey before joining the coastal path to Robin Hood’s Bay.

After that, the trail runs along the cliff edge for about 7 miles. You’ll enjoy fresh sea air, wide views, and hidden spots like Saltwick Bay, which is popular with fossil hunters and a great place to stop.

🥾 Distance: Around 7 miles
⏱️ Time: 3–4 hours
📍 Route: Whitby → Cleveland Way → Robin Hood’s Bay
🌿 Difficulty: Moderate

There are a few climbs and some exposed cliff-top sections, so it’s a good idea to come prepared. The path can get muddy after rain, and the weather can change fast, so bring sturdy shoes, water, and extra layers.

When you arrive in Robin Hood’s Bay, take some time to explore the village, visit a local pub, or walk down to the beach before heading back to Whitby.

For your return, you can follow the Cinder Track for a longer circular walk, or simply catch a bus or taxi back.

Planning your summer 2026 adventures? This classic coastal walk is a great one to add to your list. Your legs might be tired by the end, but the views make it all worthwhile. Follow the full route and map below. 👇
