This scenic walk features the tallest waterfall in the North York Moors, the village from the TV series ‘Heartbeat’, and Yorkshire’s smallest pub. 🍻🥾 Full route and map. 👇
The Mallyan Spout and Beck Hole Loop is a short but varied walk through some of the North York Moors’ most charming scenery.
Starting in Goathland, known to many as Aidensfield from Heartbeat, the 3.5-mile route follows woodland paths, riverside trails, and the dramatic West Beck valley. It then reaches Mallyan Spout, a 70-foot waterfall and one of the area’s standout natural sights.
The loop also passes Beck Hole, home to the Birch Hall Inn, often described as Yorkshire’s smallest pub. Walkers can expect classic countryside views, peaceful woodland and a rewarding mix of village charm and moorland atmosphere.
The route is generally easy and takes around 1 hour 40 minutes. Sturdy footwear is recommended because paths near the waterfall can be rocky and slippery after rain.
