A place with over 200 years of history... π‘
We've recently installed a new sign outside the front door at Broomfields Farm.
Dating back to 1790, Broomfields Farm has stood proudly overlooking Whitby for more than two centuries. Long before the farmhouse was built, people were living and working this landscape, with archaeological excavations in the surrounding fields uncovering evidence of an Iron Age settlement dating back over 2,000 years.
For the past 25 years, Broomfields Farm has been our family home.
When we first arrived, what you know now to be holiday cottages were old farm buildings - they were derelict and had fallen into disrepair and ruins. Our dad had a vision for what they could become and, over many years, poured his heart into restoring and converting them into the holiday cottages that welcome guests today. Every building has its own story, and the character of the original farm has been carefully preserved while giving it a new purpose.
Abbey View & Seabreeze - were cow sheds. They had all the old metal milking stalls.
Horseshoe Cottage - Was definitely the place they stored the muck! It was near to the ceiling piled high, goodness knows how old.
Doves Haven - A big open space and was full of doves and pigeons when we arrived.
The Old Stable & Country Cottage - were stables. But they were in the worse state. No roof, collapsed in walls.
Although we're incredibly proud to share Broomfields Farm with our guests, it also remains our private family home. The new sign is simply there to politely let new visitors know of that.
Following the loss of our dad earlier this year, continuing his work here means more to us than ever. Every step we make is with him in mind, ensuring the place he loved continues to thrive.
Thank you to everyone who has stayed with us and supported our family over the years. We look forward to welcoming many more guests to experience the peace, history and beauty of Broomfields Farm. π
