A place with over 200 years of history... 🏑

We've recently installed a new sign outside the front door at Broomfields Farm.

Dating back to 1790, Broomfields Farm has stood proudly overlooking Whitby for more than two centuries. Long before the farmhouse was built, people were living and working this landscape, with archaeological excavations in the surrounding fields uncovering evidence of an Iron Age settlement dating back over 2,000 years.

For the past 25 years, Broomfields Farm has been our family home.

When we first arrived, what you know now to be holiday cottages were old farm buildings - they were derelict and had fallen into disrepair and ruins. Our dad had a vision for what they could become and, over many years, poured his heart into restoring and converting them into the holiday cottages that welcome guests today. Every building has its own story, and the character of the original farm has been carefully preserved while giving it a new purpose.

Abbey View & Seabreeze - were cow sheds. They had all the old metal milking stalls.
Horseshoe Cottage - Was definitely the place they stored the muck! It was near to the ceiling piled high, goodness knows how old.
Doves Haven - A big open space and was full of doves and pigeons when we arrived.
The Old Stable & Country Cottage - were stables. But they were in the worse state. No roof, collapsed in walls.

Although we're incredibly proud to share Broomfields Farm with our guests, it also remains our private family home. The new sign is simply there to politely let new visitors know of that.

Following the loss of our dad earlier this year, continuing his work here means more to us than ever. Every step we make is with him in mind, ensuring the place he loved continues to thrive.

Thank you to everyone who has stayed with us and supported our family over the years. We look forward to welcoming many more guests to experience the peace, history and beauty of Broomfields Farm. πŸ’š

πŸ’› Another step forward...

We're pleased to share that our new public access defibrillator is now being installed at Broomfields Farm.

The cabinet is now in place, and we're currently completing the electrical connection before the unit is commissioned and made available for public use. Once everything is live, we'll share another update with full details of its location and how to access it in an emergency.

This defibrillator has been installed in memory of our dad, the heart of Broomfields, Laurie Farmer, and we hope it will never be neededβ€”but if it is, it could help save someone's life.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported this project and helped make it possible. πŸ’›

Polite reminder

Hi everyone, if you're bringing your children away with you. Please make sure they don't leave rubbish around. We've had to go around a few times in the last few weeks picking cans and rubbish up. Especially around the playground. Just thrown on the ground. This is to make sure its left nice for everyone πŸ’š
We have several bins on site.
We've also had pen mark drawings on walls left in a cottage this morning. We just ask guests to take care.

Thank you

πŸ’š We did it! πŸ’š

We are so incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported us over the last few months.

Thanks to your generosity, we have now raised enough money to purchase the community defibrillator. Today we'll be contacting London Hearts to let them know we've reached our target and will be arranging the purchase and installation.

What began as a way to honour Dad's memory has become something that will benefit our community for years to come.

The support has been overwhelming. Alongside the funds raised for the memorial bench and defibrillator, donations received at Dad's funeral also raised:

πŸ’š Β£312.40 for Whitby Wildlife Sanctuary
πŸ’™ Β£277.40 for the Marine Society

After reaching our defibrillator target, an additional Β£174 was donated through our GoFundMe. As promised, every penny of this will now be donated to the British Heart Foundation.

In total, Dad's memory has now helped raise funds for:
❀️ A community defibrillator
πŸͺ‘ A memorial bench at Broomfields Farm
πŸ¦” Whitby Wildlife Sanctuary
🌊 The Marine Society
πŸ«€ The British Heart Foundation

We couldn't be prouder of the legacy that's being created in his name.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who donated, shared our fundraiser, attended Dad's funeral, or simply offered us support during the last four months. Your kindness has brought comfort during the hardest of times.

Dad spent his life helping others, and it feels incredibly fitting that, even after he's gone, he's still making a difference.

Thank you all. πŸ’š

We honestly don't know how to thank everyone enough. ❀️

The memorial bench has now arrived, and seeing it in person has made everything feel so real. It's a beautiful tribute to Dad, and I know it will become a place where people can sit, reflect, and remember at Broomfields.

Thanks to everyone's incredible generosity, we're now just Β£113 away from reaching our goal to purchase the community defibrillator.

When we started this fundraiser, we never imagined we'd get this close. The support from family, friends, neighbours, guests, and even complete strangers has been overwhelming.

It means so much that Dad's memory will live on in a way that not only gives people a place to remember him, but could also help save someone's life.

If anyone is able to help us raise the final Β£113, or simply share the fundraiser one last time, we'd be so grateful. We're so close to making this happen.

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, to every single person who has donated, shared, or supported us along the way. It means more than you'll ever know. πŸ’š
