Super proud of Alex Martlew, one of our Junior Engineers, who’s running 5K a day throughout October with his brothers, Liam and Callum, to raise £500 for Prostate Cancer UK.

A keen cricketer and Wigan Athletic fan, this is the second sponsored challenge he’s taken part in recently.

Alex says: “My dad was diagnosed with Myeloma cancer 15 years ago, but he had treatment and is doing really well. This is our way of giving something back and keeping fit at the same time!”

Daniel Foster, C-TEC's Director of Science, is up for re-election to the Fire Industry Association's Technology Council.

Daniel’s background is in physics and engineering and his day-to-day work is in product development, testing and certification. He’s also the inventor of CAST-PRO, our award-winning combined fire detector.

Daniel says: “I’ve served on the Technology Council since 2025 and represent C-TEC on several FIA FD&A working groups so understand both the technical and regulatory sides of the industry. I would love to continue working on interoperability and access to panel data - decided on evidence rather than on one loop architecture. I’m also interested in making cyber security and product approval routes workable for smaller manufacturers.”

FastConvert, our new conventional to addressable zone converter, has enabled a school in Stoke-on-Trent to switch to an addressable CAST system using existing wiring.

Wayne Riley of WR Fire & Security, who completed the project said: “We are very impressed with FastConvert. It is extremely innovative. Against a full re-wire which would have added around £10,000 to the job or converting the zones into loops, which would have cost an extra £3,000-4,000 and a week's labour for two engineers, FastConvert was the clear winner. It massively reduced installation time and site disruption.”

Congratulations to the wonderful Shirley Derbyshire celebrating 30 years at C-TEC.

Shirley started out on our internal sales desk before becoming affectionately known as the ‘toilet alarm queen’ when she specialised in selling our assistive toilet alarm kits! Now our National Account Manager, she plays a key role liaising with the Head Offices of all the major electrical distribution accounts.

Thank you for all your hard work and dedication Shirley, here’s to many more years at C-TEC!

C-TEC’s ZFP CAST fire alarm and lockdown alert systems are protecting a primary school in Wigan.

The project was completed by GHE Electrical, Fire & Security Ltd and provides both fire detection and lockdown alert facilities from a single integrated system.
