Last Thursday, we were proud to unveil a new Blue Plaque at The Bull Inn in honour of John Grout, known as “Honest John”, one of The Bull’s most respected former landlords and a remarkable figure in Woodbridge’s history.

A special moment celebrating his story and his lasting connection to the town.

A big thank you to the Mayor for being part of the occasion, and to Tim Curtis for putting together this wonderful video.

A little piece of Woodbridge history is about to take place this Thursday. 💙

On 3rd September at 11am, the Mayor of Woodbridge, Nigel Phipps, will unveil our new blue plaque commemorating one of The Bull’s most remarkable former landlords, John Grout.

John rose from stableboy to ostler, landlord and internationally renowned horse dealer, supplying horses to royal households and heads of state across Europe. His extraordinary success brought wealth and employment to Woodbridge — and his connection with the Italian Royal Family is why the House of Savoy coat of arms appears on the front of The Bull today.

It’s been a labour of love bringing John’s remarkable story back to life, and we’re delighted it will now be permanently marked on the building he once called home.

Join us outside The Bull at 11am on Thursday. Everyone is very welcome. 💙
