Eboracum Lodge is a group of outgoing Freemasons who encourage openness, charity and fraternity. We want to welcome you with open arms.

Snappy Trust - as we approach the end of Autumn, we reflect even more on “giving” with events such as Remembrance Day and “Children in Need” amongst others coming to the fore. It is also time for Eboracum Lodge’s latest charity donation as part of their monthly charitable giving programme and so its November £500 donation is to the small local York charity, the Snappy Trust.
Snappy was established in May 1985 and celebrated its forty first anniversary this year. It is dedicated to maximising the personal development of children and young people who have a wide range of disabilities. There are over three hundred families who currently appreciate the help and support provided for them.
Snappy provides a community, rich in resources, that meet the needs of the children and young people who attend. Alongside this, they offer opportunities for them to explore new activities and gain life skills that may not be easily accessed elsewhere. Their wide mix of activities is designed to encourage personal growth and development. This community environment ensures that the children and young people can learn, develop and have fun with the same feeling and tone as their mainstream peers.
As a small charity, they rely heavily upon the fundraising efforts of their supporters and raising these funds is proving more difficult as everyone” tightens their belts” so Snappy were very grateful for the donation which will help them continue their crucial work.

Carecent charity supported by Eboracum Lodge

As the nights draw in and the leaves start to fall, it’s time for Eboracum Lodge’s next charity donation as they continue their monthly charitable giving programme. October’s £500 donation is to Carecent, a local York charity located at a nearby church in St. Saviourgate and run by many willing volunteers.

Carecent was founded over forty years ago as a church charity (a soup kitchen) and then developed via the Salvation Army into today’s Carecent organisation. The main service now undertaken is predominantly one of a breakfast centre for those experiencing homelessness, poverty, unemployment and social isolation by offering a hot breakfast, tea and coffee.

Additional services such as access to showering facilities, a clothing store and hairdressing & podiatry services are also provided as well as some support for medical issues including hepatitis C testing, NHS vaccinations and help with mental health.

Funding mainly comes from grants and public donations of money, food and clothing. Like many charities, raising these funds is proving more difficult in today’s economic climate so Carecent were extremely grateful for the donation which will help them continue their crucial work.

Eboracum Lodge support for Kyra Women’s Project. As part of their monthly charitable giving programme, Eboracum Lodge’s September donation was one of £500 to Kyra Women’s Project, a local York charity run by a host of volunteers.

The charity was founded in 2013. It was recognised at that time that when women feel most vulnerable and alone, there is a desperate need for immediate support and unfortunately many women had to wait a considerable time to receive that needed specialist intervention and support. This lack of support following formal specialist treatments diminished the effectiveness of the primary interventions and outcomes. To alleviate this and empower women to make positive changes in their lives at their own pace, Kyra offers
• Social spaces, like our drop-ins, where you can meet new people, make friends, and explore the support available at Kyra.
• Courses and workshops on topics such as recovery from domestic abuse, anxiety, self-esteem, resilience, assertiveness, loss, and boundaries.
• Confidential counselling.
• Practical support, including legal advice, money management, and ICT skills.
• Mentoring and coaching to help set goals, develop strategies, and navigate challenges.
• Wellbeing activities, from singing, poetry, and creative writing to gardening, walking, mindfulness, and crafts.
• Specialist support for young people and those affected by neurodiversity.
Funding which mainly comes from grants and public donations is always tight so the charity were really appreciative of the Lodge’s donation and expressed their grateful thanks for the donation which will help them continue their important work within the City.

Following the latest meeting, it’s time to look back on what has been a tremendous busy year for Eboracum Lodge.
The year started with over seventy brethren at the Worshipful Master’s Installation last November, not really surprising after his forty years experience in Freemasonry. Since then the Lodge has performed ceremonies every month including four 1st degree ceremonies, one 2nd degree and three 3rd degrees culminating in a double 2nd degree ceremony this month, a fantastic finale to the “ceremonial” year. If this isn’t enough, the Lodge had two joining members and with more candidates in the pipeline, ceremonies so far are planned up to July 2027.
All the ceremonies have been conducted to a high standard thanks to excellent team work and have ensured that each of them has been a memorable occasion for the candidates. During this time, the Lodge has been privileged to receive ruler’s visits on three occasions and a representative on another occasion.
The highlight without doubt however was the 150th anniversary. What a delight. A full temple with nearly a 100 brethren attending, a full festive board; what more could any Lodge want. If there had been enough room, we would have had over 150 brethren there. The presence of the Provincial Grand Master and a team of 22 active officers enhanced the very full meeting which included a brief history of the Lodge, the blessing of a Lodge banner, a presentation of a 150th certificate for the Province, a £7,000 donation from the Lodge for Festival 29 and last but not least, the Provincial Grand Master being made an honorary member of the Lodge.
Phew what a year but a satisfying one but there’s no resting on our laurels as we now look forward to next year and the installation of our new Worshipful Master on Monday 9th November. If you’re available, why not be there at St Saviourgate and give your support to him; you know you’ll receive our normal Eboracum warm welcome and have a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Eboracum Lodge believes every ceremony should be a memorable and unforgettable occasion for a candidate (in a positive way) and to produce such a ceremony, it needs to be preceded by a good rehearsal. With a double second degree ceremony fast approaching, Eboracum Lodge just did that. How many attended the rehearsal you may ask to support two of their brothers? To show they care, twenty one brethren turned up for the rehearsal including all officers, all brethren doing ritual plus a few more to act as candidates. Congratulations brethren for such an amazing effort; our candidates will really appreciate it on Monday.

Great night celebrating our 150th Anniversary last night. There were 95 in the Lodge Room, 89 Dining at the Festive Board. Our WM said ‘’Brethren, what a great night for the Lodge in every way. Everyone played their part and so thank to you all. However special mention must be made of the excellant band of stewards led by Michael, what a team you have and how hard you worked. An immense thank you to you all’’.

Eboracum’s latest meeting was an excellent ceremony in which Bro. Sam Robson was initiated into the craft; the 4th initiation ceremony carried out by the Worshipful Master Jim Cooper and his team this year. The lodge welcomed R.W. Bro. James Newman, the Provincial Grand Master of the Province of Yorkshire, West Riding and a member of our Lodge, as well as many visitors including W. Bro. Simon Simpson, the Assistant Provincial Grand Master in his first visit since taking office, his Director of Ceremonies W. Bro Adam Robson and the Worshipful Masters of 5 lodges.
Following the ceremony, the brethren moved downstairs and sat down to an excellent festive board. The Assistant Provincial Grand Master took the opportunity to give the brethren an outline of the plans the Provincial Executive team have to move the Province forward in the future in a positive way; plans which were well received. The atmosphere throughout was vibrant with the brethren thoroughly enjoying themselves with a sense of togetherness, warm friendship and conviviality throughout. The evening finished with happy brethren departing on their journeys home in “Peace, Love and Harmony”.
The countdown is now on towards the Lodge’s 150th anniversary meeting on Monday 10th August which the Provincial Grand Master and his team will be attending.
