Every Sunday morning in Alagni, the church bells ring and the whole village shows up. 🕊️
Anna, the cottage neighbour, holds out this piece of bread and explains: "This is antidoro. After the liturgy, the priest places it in your hands and says: may the blessing and mercy of the Lord come upon you. It comes from the prosphoro, the offering the faithful bring to the church. What remains after the holy ritual becomes this gift.
You take it home. You eat it slowly, with respect. It is a small thing, but it carries the whole meaning of Sunday with it."
This is what Sunday feels like in a real Cretan village. Not something you read about. Something you walk into, just by being here.
Stay in Alagni. The bells, the neighbours, the blessed bread — it all comes with it. 🏡🌿
