🌿✨ May 1st in Rijkevorsel: Poortje P*k at its best! ✨🌿

In Rijkevorsel, May 1st is not just any holiday… it is "the" night of Poortje P*k! 😄

During the night of April 30th to May 1st, young people (and sometimes adults too 😉) roam through the village with one mission:

👉 to collect everything that isn't bolted down

Gates, fences, garden furniture… anything that isn't fixed in place is taken along and eventually gathered together in the village square.

The morning of May 1st then creates a unique scene:

a square full of “collected” items, surprised residents, and above all, lots of laughter. 🤭

What makes this tradition so special in Rijkevorsel is the atmosphere: everyone knows it, everyone expects it… and yet it remains surprising year after year.

No vandalism, but pure folklore and togetherness. 💛

A village tradition that proves fun and community go hand in hand.

In 2026, it will be 10 years since the 2016 Brussels attacks shattered thousands of lives.

While the memory remains marked by pain and loss, it is also profoundly marked by something even stronger: resilience.

The resilience of the survivors.
The resilience of those who, despite visible and invisible wounds, chose to keep moving forward, to rebuild their lives, to find meaning again.

Among them, Beatrice de Lavalette is a powerful symbol. Wounded in the attacks, she transformed her ordeal into incredible strength, eventually becoming a Paralympic athlete.

Her journey reminds us that even after the unthinkable, it is possible to rise again… and even to surpass oneself.

Resilience does not erase the past.
But it allows us to continue living, hoping, and building.

Today, we honor the victims.
But we also salute the strength of those who, every day, choose courage.

Because getting back up is already a victory. 🤍
